Made a mount for the front of the seat out of plastic then cut a rectangle hole in the frame for it to slide into. I mounted a couple of nuts tacked to a bar to the back inside of the seat also made a mount on the frame to secure it with 2 bolts. I glued several layers of foam to the base and shaped it with a knife and different sanders. Just need to get it covered.
I dismantled the bike so I could start painting all the parts. Since the original Nighthawk was blacked out there was plenty to paint and powdercoat. I sent several parts to PC. I painted the engine and frame as well as some parts. I wanted to black out the forks but anodizing wasn't in the budget and I was concerned that paint would easily scratch so I had this idea to used large shrink wrap to cover them. It work pretty well only had to paint a small section on the fork to allow it to pass through the triple clamp. I also installed heavier springs and oil in the forks to stiffen up the front end.
I took care of some details while everything is at paint. Added grips, levers and mirrors. Did some mods to the chain guard. I also got my seat back from upholstery.
Back from paint and all back together. Also took care of some details made filler panels at the rear of the tank, added a plate under the tail to help protect electronics and act as a plate mount. I used 2 led bulbs hidden at the bottom inside corners of the tail light for turn signals. One thing nice about using a more modern bike is it fired right up and runs like a Honda.
One of the hardest things to do in a custom bike is to match different style elements and that's twice as hard when they come from a completely different era. You have done an excellent job of making that work and it looks really good.
I could not agree more - I love the Nighthawk in its stock duds but you've really broken the mold here. This is the best looking Nighthawk (well, Nighthawk mash-up) I've ever seen. Bikeexif needs to know about this ride. Congrats man, absolute belter.
