Honda triple clamps for 35mm forks

Been Around the Block
Wanting a plug and play setup to convert my CB350K2 from 33mm to 35mm forks, I did some research on the web and picked up a couple pairs of 1972 SL350K2 triple trees from eBay. The lowers have the double pinch bolts and measure 35mm diameter. However, the uppers measure just 33mm diameter.

Is the SL350K2 upper triple clamp similar in design to the one that was originally fitted on my CB350 to capture the fork? I need to be able to adjust the front ride height by raising or lowering the forks through the triple clamps. Am I missing something? My research indicated this was a bolt on affair. Am I supposed to machine the holes in the upper clamp to fit 35mm forks?

I know some of you guys are going to say just get CB750 or CB550 clamps but I've already been down that road once and don't want to mess with swapping steering stems. Thanks.

Didnt think that the Sl350 was a tapered fork so I really dont know why your top is 33. Maybe you have a miss matched set as the other SLs had 33mm forks

What are you talking about with swapping steering stems for the 550 clamps? its just a small washer/spacer and go, 350 racers run this set up all the time

Yes, strange indeed, as both sets came from different sellers in different states bought 6 months apart.

I'm sure my problem before can be attributed to eBay sellers knowing crap all about their UJM junk and there being a number of small, but not insignificant, changes over the years on models with the same name. Initially I had planned to use some triple trees from a 1976 CB550 but the stem was a bit too long and I didn't want to use spacers. So removed the CB550 stem to swap in my CB350 stem. Unfortunately, I damaged the threads on the CB350 stem so now I'm back to square one.

I'm thinking that the SL350K2 forks neck down from 35mm to 33mm between the triple clamps for some reason. Apparently these tapered forks are somewhat common on off-road machines, and even some modern sport bikes. Seems I'm back to using the adjustable hand reamer....
