Been Around the Block
This is a friend's girlfriend's mom's friend"s bike so I'm getting fith hand info. She took the bike,Honda CX500 by the way, to the honda shop because it wouldn't start.
They gave her her starter reduction gear back and told her she needs to get about .003 added to the boss that sticks up. They said it's to sloppey fitting and is not working properly. I told my friend that did not sound right. She ended up buying one on EBAY. She took it back to the Honda shop and they told her that one does the same thing.

The bike is still at the shop so my friend can't just go look at it. Well he could if he really wanted to but its a ways away. But we want to know how this works so we have the whole story. Some smart ass on here must have the info I need.

Assuming this is a starter clutch.. skip to 2 minutes:

My GS1000 only has 3 rollers and springs, I picked up a set of replacement rolllers and springs for about $30. I would assume the rollers are a softer material so that they wear down rather than the boss, as they can be replaced.

Not sure what the rules are on posting links to other forums but from a quick google this should provide a bit more relevant info for OP:
