Inspiration; Where do you go?

Hey guys just thought I would share one my favorite website where I look to for inspiration and I was wondering where everyone else went. If you don't mind share a link to your favorite site.
Here is one of my favorite places
http://www.bikeexif.com/

Yo there is no web site for me its the now sick and old dying or dead drag racers in my town the guys that have 100+ horsepower banshee's that they built. the guys that stuffed buick 6 cylinders on speed boats that you could fit on top a picnic table (rip your eyes out fast) my dad and his brothers built two gocarts that were powered by 2 hopped up chain saw motors each cart was around 30 hp crazy fast the. guys that did it all with no money or formal training. the guys that would drag race there cars and bikes on the weekends and run them to work the other 5 days a week. Guys that could give two shits about what there doing in cali. No high end mail order parts, no cnc bullshit just good old fashion learn from mistakes hp. That the inspiration i pull from and i think ive held to it. Ill bust every fucking rd motor i can lay my hands on if i have to, to have s fast one. If it hurts, hit it harded!

Right here, man. DTT has given me all my inspiration. Remember when you were a kid, flipping through magazines with your buddy, and you guys would point out a car advertisement and shout out, "That's mine!" trying to grab it before your buddy? That's how I feel scrolling through some of these build threads.

heard that! There are so many cool ideas on these forums

I go out to the garage and get to work. I try to build what I want not what someone else has built.

true enough. I steal all the ideas I like and put them in one bike. not really inspiration, just idea stealing.

That's awesome! I know some people cannot visualize their entire build. I for example have a basic outline of what i want and then as I approach each piece I look for a clever or cool way to do it (ex. different way of painting or a mod). So while the Ideas are my own I impliment or get inspired and create my own mod from others ideas.

But what about the validation of others on the interwebs?

I'm always open to clever ways of doing things. I've spent most of my life with very little "throw away" money. There has been very little dial 1-800-sendparts. Usually if I can't make it myself I do without it. There are only so many ways to build a cafe (or whatever you are building). You look at other machines and think, that's cool. Or think I would have done that differently. Like so many things, you take the basic concept and make it yours.

This came into my head a few years ago. Had a lot of trouble finding ready made parts for it.

Dude that thing is sick! How fast did it hit?

The records are in my sig. the fastest one way run (so far) as a 500 has been 126. We're going back with a 546 cc engine to see if we can top 130.

I would assume the records in his signature are on that bike...
I was looking through an app earlier and I swear no ones sig was displayed?

Inspiration comes from wherever you find it. I might be looking at a neat picture of say the Yamaha M1 MotoGp bike and like the shape of the seat. Well it won't fit any bike I have, but there are design elements like say teh general line or the rear end that I can adapt to a different platform.

The Phat Trakka came from looking at hundreds of pictures of street trackers and dirt track racers and getting an idea of a general look. Then I grabbed a seat and tank or two and started taking pictures and scribbling all over prints to make the shapes work with that motor and so it goes on.

Example: BMW twin race bikes from AHRMA racing in the late nineties had a really nice curve to the bottom edge of the body work that can be used as a design element on a partially faired bike. I can't use a single part from the original but I can adapt the curve and make it work.

Example: Ealry Guzzi Lemans or V7 special had small almost triangular side covers which contrasted with the red frame and made the frame stand out as a design element. Take that idea of using a side cover to define rather than hide a frame tube to show up the shape.

Creative adaptation is what it's about.

If I build a replica of something it's different, but this design stuff is fun. Grab a sharpie and prints of your bike and let the lines flow in sweeps. It won't take long to get a theme. And don't forget, I'm totally left brain analytical detail oriented and if I can tap into that right brain creativity, so can you.

did you see the 50cc that hit 150 in 2008 (Bonneville)? thats crazy!

That's the Buddfab streamliner. An amazing machine to say the least. Shows what really good streamlining can do for 3 cubic inches. Some years ago a bunch crazy Dutchmen took a 50cc GP VanVeen Kriedler and added some "Worlds fastest Indian" type of streamlining and ran 137. Here's a video of Buddfab. If you need some inspiration here it is.
