It all Started here:: My SkyTeam Ace story

I'd like to lose the rear fender as well, but as mine is a daily ride every day, rain hail or shine, I think I'll need to keep it on. Looks great though!

I'm hoping that (if required) the reg plate will stop most of the water flicking up. I've also kept the plastic forward part and am planning on putting some sort of filler piece under the seat with a view to
a) keeping some water from building up at the seat
b) providing a small amount of underseat storage

Ok took the Ace out for her first spin tonight (about 20 miles along my normal run to work and back along the A57, mix of town & open road) what a hoot:)

Suffice to say she's completely different to the Bird or Mavis (CBRs 1100 & 600) , well durr!!!

Seems to like short shifting into 4th , quite a torquey little engine. Quite happily popped along with the traffic even in the 60(mph) zones with apparent ease. Do need to calibrate the speedo on the Acewell against the GPS though.

Handling was better than expected (& that can only improve once I upgrade the shocks & tyres) although the brakeswill certainly benefit form the EBC pads & shoesplus braided hose I have to fit.

The only poor bit was the headlight. As they would say on a report card , "could do better" but then again I am used to the HIDs on both my other bikes & this has a little 35w christmas tree light in :) Also one of the 2 bottom bolts fell out, noticed when the headlight started pointing sideways & also some of the silvering has gone. Missing bolt is easily sorted Jonno, chap who supplied her, is ordering a replacement headlamp for me

Think this is the first bike I've owned where I'm heavier than it is (kerb weight 87kg, I'm 104kg fully suited, booted & helmeted)

The 'Ace' goes really well for its size!

You will undoubtedly find a marked improvement in performance as the motor gets run-in.
The handling is one of it's better points, although cornering well does rely on maintaining momentum.

You may have already done it, but it would be a good idea to use some of the foam sheet supplied with the Shorai to protect it underneath and at the back. The casing has high impact strength but is not so resistant to abrasion.

Good riding!

Thanks for the tip about the shoai. I havent but I will

Ah conservation of momentum. Take sme back to my days of owning 2CVs. Not the fastest cars in the world but with the right driver on twisty lanes far more powerful & faster cars would struggle :)

on twisty lanes …

I catch them in the corners but they get away on the straights!

But then I catch them again at the next corner - some riders on more powerful (and more expensive) bikes seem less than pleased with these antics.

I'm really glad that back in the day the originals went to the Ace Cafe instead of The Charcoal Kebab House.

'Charcoal Kebab House Racer' doesn't have the same ring to it...

Ok QA throttle & replacement switchgear fitted. Happy with the throttle & LH siwtchgear, jurys out on the RH switch gear

Also need to tweak the choke control as lost the cable so can only use from the carb body which is fine but its spring loaded to the open position. Need to find a waty of holding it on if required.
