Small footsteps. Started blocking together the rear end. I tacked the swing-arm in place where I wanted it before I hacked off the shocks and rear frame. Now I'm going to carefully tack it together and then yank the rear wheel and finish it off....hopefully.

Little tiny baby steps. Once blocked in, I'm thinking on pulling motor and wheels off so I can flip the frame over and really weld the heck out of it.

If you haven't figured it out already, this is the "DON'T DO THIS" thread. My latest mess up/learning experience is the Ebay muffler I purchased a while back. New, yes. Shiny flawless chrome, yes. Anything approaching the ability to "muffle"? NOPE. It's basically a straight pipe, with no perforations, and a sort of teaspoon-looking deflector welded in the middle of it. (see illustration) Not too sure what the point is, because it doesn't quiet anything down appreciably and it doesn't improve the quality of the sound. But if you just want something for looks alone, then it works.

I ended up getting a comically large HD muffler for $18 shipped, (a stocker from one of their 1340cc baggers) and it will fit barely lengthwise, but it WILL reduce the noise and it WON'T restrict. So, win-win. It has a real baffle and being that it's rated to handle a 670cc jug, the little 250 will probably not even get it hot! :D Amazingly, the weight difference isn't too much!

So I've been a bit lazy but not much to post.... Tried to change my own tire; the success was subdued by the sound of rapidly escaping air and the smell of new inner-tube. Geez. I even used proper spoons, too.

Baby powder can help to prevent pinches on the inner tube.
I always treat the tube as if it is made of tissue paper.
Also when you first inflate the tube only put a few psi in and then check to make sure it isn't caught anywhere and that the valve is aligned with the rim still.

Thanks! Obviously, I SUCK at this.
I tried a WHOLE BUNCH of baby powder but all it did was make me smell funny and... oh... you meant on the TIRE...... ( :D )
Yeah, I knew I poked a hole in it when I could smell that "inner inner tube smell"... (TWICE. TWO tubes) . dang it. Just going to take the tire, rim and tube to a shop. Life is too short to be punching holes through brand new IRC tubes!
 
Tire wrestling is one task that I don't care to take on. A local shop does it for quite a reasonable charge on very good equipment, taking great care with the rims.

I do a ton of tires and even I can pinch a tube sometimes. It sucks. I have no one remotely close or reasonably priced who can do tires for me so I have the HF stand and lots of different irons/spoons and just suck it up and do it.
 
I apologize for the silence/absence - Life is really steering me away from touching any projects. I'm not sure if this would be a good place to ask, but is it just me or the Battery Cover Right Side Thing on the 2006 Honda 599 ridiculously impossible to find?

ANY battery cover us hard to find. Battery dead, need a jump, get if started, don't pay attention to making sure the cover is well attached. Thinking America's ditch lines are close to lined with them.

Hilarious, but true! Plus Honda 599's didn't exactly sell here by the tons- so dang.
