8) serious noob here trying to convert my bike into a cafe racer. I'm practically clueless and was wondering if anyone in boston would be willing to help out a young man in need. Looking to do a fiberglass rear section, new tires, turn signals, handlebars and possibly relocate the electrical minus the battery to the inside of the cowl. Thinking a 3 into 1 shorty megaphone exhaust would be nice, gotta replace the air box with some K&N's possibly some paint/powdercoat one day. I wouldn't mind paying someone to do it for me but id much rather learn how to do it myself. My name is mark i grew up in New York and just moved to brighton in order to get sober. So yeah if anyone could help or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Awesome Bike man! I had an XS 850 a couple years ago....It will def sound BADA$$ with the 3 into 1 on there....I live in Ma about an hour or so from where your at....Def take your time Lots of work to be done on a project like that If i were you I'd throw some $25 clubmans on it and ride out the rest of the season especially if you plan on changing a lot....In February I wanted my bike done in a month....Finally it's coming together this month....Good Luck I'm always down for wrenching and riding just can't bring all my tools out to Brighton

Hey thanks a lot for the reply desmobro. Good call on the clubmans any idea if I need a specific size? Ive been riding a bit all I need to do now for the inspection is ground the front left blinker.

Beautiful find!!!!! I was thinking clubmans, some maintenance checks and ride out the season. If you get into pods and 3-1 now youll have to rejet carbs etc. Depending on how far you want to go, It is quite a lengthy process if you really start tearing into it. Also a note on your electric comment, unless you plan on clearing out the center triangle of all electronics I would just leave battery where it is. I dont know what you paid for that bike but it appears to be in killer shape for the year!!!!

That's a nice clean triple. Start simple. I bought a wreck and went all in. I'm closing in on two years for this build.

Yeah no major upgrades until the winter. I do plan on clearing out the center triangle ($100 on ebay) and putting in much smaller gauges, I'd like to have the battery hanging directly under the seat in a custom box (possibly with some sort of design laser cut out, GD bolts maybe). It has 16,000 miles on it and i def overpaid but I work so much I didn't have anytime to travel for a good deal. I also bought it at a dealership. Got a new helmet in the mail today! gold 3/4 with speakers in the ears, not the safest but def stylin 8)

very nice start. I am not local but I am always willing to give advice or direction if you are looking for something or parts.the one thing I do know about 750 is there was an oil stavation issue to top end something to do with the oil channels being to small. I don't know the years this would have affected. It's worth looking into. If there is a fix for some known problem do it before it gets you.

Cheers Mortikan

my front brakes are rubbing and my front blinkers need to be grounded (currently using tinfoil)
definitely need to figure out that stuff asap

Is it a single wire turn signal? I have a yamaha 73 tx650 and I run a round terminal end connector to the inside of headlight bucket and put it on the shaft before you put on the nut to hold the turn to the bucket. soder a wire to this and ground to the harness just piggyback on another ground. I can give you pictures if you need them.

i believe it was the 77 xs750 that had the oil problems.

Sup dude? I'm pretty green myself and just learning it all. I won't be much help with experienced advice but I'm always down to lend a hand if you need a second set. I live about 10-20 min from the Allston/Brighton area depending on which roads I take and time of day. Over in Newtonville.

The best advice I can give is get the shop manual for the bike and print the wiring diagram (in color) as big as you can. Nice looking bike, btw.

Really nice bike mate! Yammy triples make killer kaffs. Like other posters said, I would go with a simple Ace bar (7/8") for right now and just ride the bejeezes out of it. The fuel tank has got some great lines so I would definitely keep that and look to either AirTech or Dime city for a bum stopper. Good luck and keep us posted.

2 wires on the turn signal, I've got a buddy who works for me who says he'd be happy to show the fiberglass ropes when its time to do up a rear section. good shit rattpunk I've got a crusty old shop manuel. Currently shopping for a nice handlebar.

I've actually got some straight drag bars and a pair of super bike bars I can let you try out. They just don't feel right for me on my bike. I might be getting some clip-ons soon, if that happens you can even take my clubmans.

None are real quality but free is a good price for a test fitting.

my boss fixed my brakes today!! Hopefully work will be slow this weekend and I can figure out how the hell I'm going to grind this front turn signals.

beautifull day for a ride, smooth sailing all the way to work in cambridge , rear valve stem is spewing air, what do i do!!! :'(
