Kill Switch

Hello!

Think I am in the final stages of my project 73 CL350... I am using the Honda switches sold by Cognito Moto (yes, I have asked them for input on the issue I'm having). Everything seems to be wired correctly except the kill switch - the bike starts regardless of the position of the switch. I'm hoping to find someone else that used these switches for a CL350. This problem has us at a standstill. Thank you!

How did you wire it into the circuit? It needs to be connected so that in RUN position, power flows from the battery to the coils and then to the points. In the OFF position there must be no power to the coils.

Someone who is familiar with your model should be able to chime in and tell you the wire colors or check a wiring diagram to be sure.

The coils on these are wired through the handlebar switch by the b/w wire. Black is the power circuit, which is typical on all the Hondas, so you should have black going to the switch, and the b/w from the switch to the coils. If you are feeding the coils with power any other way, then you've bypassed the switch.

Also: The 73 CL350 did not have two switches like that Cognito switch. That's the SOHC4 and later twin switch. The CL had an Off/On/Off switch, so you are using either or, not both.

Thank you. My father has been working on it, I've been staying home as I am worried about my parents getting sick. He says he has it wired the way you mentioned. He says everything from that switch is wired to the bike at the moment. Are you saying that something needs to be unplugged from the switch than?

Without knowing exactly how he has it wired, it's hard to say, but there should be only 3 wires to that switch. I can't remember if the ground for the starter button uses the handlebar or is wired into the harness. That would make 4, if it's wired to the harness. They start by grounding power to frame.

Thank you. I will let him know what I have found out and hopefully he can get it sorted out.
