So who has one of these jackets from UltimoFashionsUk? (http://www.ultimofashions.com/)

Here's what I'd like to believe:

If I pay about $165 shipped for the jacket with the extra options included for 1.) cowhide 2.) CE armor, and 3.) custom tailoring to fit me perfectly, I'll be getting a good quality, double-stitched riding jacket with the functionality of a new Fieldsheer / Joe Rocket / Iconn, etc., for about half of what they cost, and with decent vintage aesthetics.

That seems too good to be true.

Opinions? Reviews from actual owners?

Re: Kidly share your opinion on this jaket?

Ive never seen one in person, but a sub $200 tailored, cowhide, armored jacket seems way to good to be true. A nice proper riding jacket with the same specs is usually about $100 more than that if not higher. Could just be a good deal though. Also, I noticed that it doesnt say what type/thickness cowhide they use. A shady prick could say cowhide and simply use cheap leather...

Re: Kidly share your opinion on this jaket?

I vote that Uncle Tupelo76 should be the test monkey for this Jacket...ha.

Seriously, man. If you order one post up photos and a review.

Re: Kidly share your opinion on this jaket?

Yeah, absolutely. If I pull the trigger on it, I'll do an in-depth review. I'm going to contact them first about the thickness of the cowhide. Any other questions yall would want to know if I can get the distro on the horn?

Re: Kidly share your opinion on this jaket?

keep in mind that shipping from the UK to America is usually about 25-35 pounds.. basically factor in $40-$50 for shipping, not $10 like you are assuming...

yeah.. go for it and let us know!!...

Better yet, tell the seller that you are one member of a 10000+ forum and would like to do a test/review of their jacket, which you'll promote to all the members, if they send you a free sample for you to QA... and you wont even charge them for all the work and write up... they can consider it FREE advertising and promotion to a 10000 person captive market!!..

Re: Kidly share your opinion on this jaket?

the shipping quote says 5.99 BP expedited international.

I dunno man, 165$ for a custom tailored armored cowhide jacket? something has to be up, the materials alone would be around 100$(+) and if theyre eating it on shipping theres no way they can be making money on this.

conversely; who cares, look at this.

Re: Kidly share your opinion on this jaket?

I snagged the jacket via ebay BIN on the 5th. I chose the cowhide & CE armor options on a size 42/Med for a total of $152.29.

I've talked with someone from Ultimo about the review i am planning to do of the jacket in this thread, (which will be the only online review of their products so far, to my knowledge). I sent him a link to the thread. He took a look at it and assured me that we would all be amazed at the quality of the jacket. He said someone from the factory would either be getting in touch with me or would post here directly about the construction process. These guys have some cool designs already, and apparently have the ability to do custom stuff too. If the quality is right there could be some real potential. I look forward to finding out.

I haven't forgotten about this, fellas. I've been riding in the jacket a little now that my bike is up, so the detailed review is forthcoming. (Just building suspense!)

How about some first impressions then? What was the turn around time from order to when you received the jacket?

Sorry fellas, been too busy to do up a proper review with pics and details, so I haven't done one at all. I don't know when the busy factor will change, so I suppose I can tell you most of what I know in just a few sentences.

First off, in the interest of full disclosure, the seller told me that if anyone mentions my eBay name (southerncelt662) when they buy one, he'll give me a cut. That doesn't mean I'm not gonna tell you the truth about the jacket so you'll all tush out and buy one, but if you do, it'd be nice of ya to mention me.

The jacket shipped here from Dubai in about 4 or 5 days. here are a few small pics of how it arrived. HQ ones to follow, one day.

My first impressions were that the jacket was pretty sweet, and it needed some abuse to break it in.

I took it out for a good drag up and down the driveway a few times to give it a little character. Worked beautifully. Sorry I don't have any decent pics of it, I'll get a few soon.

Let me get to the point...

I. Cons:

1. The armor is pretty much wack. It looks like the jackets come pre-lined, then when an order for an armored jacket comes in the armor is sewn in with another layer of liner material held on with a single stitch in like a "pocket" of sorts that is closed with a 1" square of Velcro. The shoulder and arm pads aren't positioned in the most ergonomically correct places, and make the sleeves kind of tight on me. I pulled all the padding / armor out of my jacket within a few days and the comfort level went up a million points. Bottom line: skip the armor.

2. The zipper pulls. Just because somebody in Abu Dhabi stamped "YKK" into them doesn't make them strong. I've already broken two of them - the main zipper and a pocket. Pulled them slap off while zipping closed. Here are a couple of pics. The first one shows what the alleged "YKK" zipper pulls look like on top, and the one I broke on the bottom. The second one shows my main zipper with my makeshift keyring pull in place.

II. Pros:

1. This jacket is frickin cool. I feel like a street walkin cheetah with a heart full of napalm. I feel like Darkness on the Edge of Town. If I found it in a thrift store for $150, I'd buy it in a minute after putting it on, jank zippers, wack, throwaway armor and all. It feels, smells, wears and looks killer. without the armor in it and after having been broken in good, it fits like an old t-shirt. Soft but tough. No doubt the leather is quality. Too bad they didn't give the same attention to the zippers, and maybe they will in the future if their potential customers hold their feet to the fire over it.

III. Conclusion:

Look, if you want a Joe Rocket jacket with top-quality armor and zippers and seams, etc. go buy one. If this one appeals to you aesthetically, grab one. Go horsehide, it's tough as nails but it breaks in soft. IMO, forget about the armor. Be prepared to replace a few zipper pulls. If you like the look of it online, you'll be stoked on it in person.

Ill try to post some pics of me wearing it, soon.

Thanks for the honest assessment... so the heart full of napalm is standard, or can I opt out like the armor?

Personally I like the key ring pull better anyway, so sounds like a good deal.
