KLR 650 Trans American Trail Ride

The Arkansas portion is pretty easy, decent dirt roads and two lane pavement most of the way. Most normal people do the whole thing in a couple of days. We did it on obsolete 2 stroke enduro bikes that ate fuel like crazy, ate sparkplugs and had at least one flat each day. It took us two weeks so you know we were in no hurry. Your tank range should be fine at least for Arkansas stretch. We meandered a lot, leaving the TAT to go see friends or visit new places within 25-50 miles of the trail. We stayed in hotels or cabins. We also ate a lot of BBQ and my buddy called it the Beans & BBQ Trail. Be sure to stop at the Oark Cafe. The burgers and pie are good. It is now a destination ride like the Rock Store in California.
The Ozark Café in Jasper? Great food, not the place to go if you're in a hurry.
If you get near Eureka Springs, hit up Bubba's for the best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had.

I've been to the Ozark Cafe in Jasper many times. My great uncle was sheriff in Jasper and his picture is on the wall with a still he broke up in the 20s. The Oark Cafe is on the TAT route and is located at Oark, AR. It gets very busy some days, even busier than the Ozark in Jasper.

Glad i pulled this stock vstrom windshield back outta the trash can every time I threw it away, which was several. A little cutting and she works a treat. Ugly as sin, but it's a KLR... did about 50 miles behind it with shop rags stuffed behind the fairing to get the position right before committing to permanent brackets. Keeps the wind off my chest and shoulders, and when positioned correctly, no buffeting with my helmet up in clean air.

Glad I got a test in Sunday. This hit last night, which may have sealed the riding season for the most part for me...

May? Optimism like that'll make you an honorary Montrealer.
Lol "may" and "for the most part" were both put in there for a reason. I rarely go a month without some kinda ride, even If just around the block in my snowmobile gear.

Looks pretty good, Levi. Once you get that KLR all prettied up it'll be a good steed for ya.

I hear ya on the riding season. I had something similar this morning. New tyres for the car will be in tomorrow, but those dual sport tyres I ordered for the Beemer mist have gotten lost in the mail! No tracks out to the shop.

Bezos saw you spell tires like the British and decided not to send them to ya ;)

HA! I was looking for tyres for the CB125 as it will likely need them not being on the road in 18 years. I googled them both ways and got different results. I think if we don't go tracker I will put Avon Roadriders on. they didn't come up in the search when I spelled it tires, when I used tyres they did and I found two close to me dealers if the online shops are out.

ha, I'll have to remember that. Wonder if that's more prevalent in CA than in the states though?

Ha, just trying to keep the peace w/ all the neighbors! It's more likely that Bezos saw I ordered them from Walmart instead of Amazon! He shouldn't be too upset, though, I'm doing my part to keep him in groceries. How I have to remember that when I go into the Walmart in Upper I'll have to.ask them to mount my tires, not my tyres, I'm not sure they will understand that.

Tire: verb, To feel or cause to feel in need of rest or sleep.

Tyre: noun, A rubber covering, typically inflated or surrounding an inflated inner tube, placed round a wheel to form a soft contact with the road.

I'm with the English and Canucks on this one.

Back to the KLR, Levi's probably getting tired. tyred annoyed about his thread getting hijacked.

I worked on my dual headlight setup today. It uses a pair of Suzuki DR650 fairing mounts adapted to hold Honda ruckus headlights. The plates hold the fairing, turn signals and headlight frame. I cut up the fairing and mounted it back up. It now turns with the bars. I still need to clean up the cuts and make a few braces to stiffen everything up, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

What did you use to get the dr650 brackets to stay in place?

If i remember correctly, i turned down some pvc pipe to the correct wall thickness, then split it so that it slid over the forks and inside the headlight ears

I tried with some schedule 40 electrical pvc but that didn't work, I'll have to go get some thin wall stuff. How long were the plates you made attaching the light to the brackets?
