Fantastic pictures, thanks for sharing.Looks to be a great event! How did that 500 Suzuki go? Is that at sea level?

Hi Peter,

Great photos of an amazing experience. Congrats on raising your record but what a bugger of a thing to happen once you got home.

Great pics and proof that racing motorcycles is safe and taking a bath is not.

Congrats on the record.

#739 appears to be Stephen Finn on his 1974 GT750 Suzuki that normally runs with full LSR bodywork.

Is that the Real Kevin Magee who raced a Ducati in OZ for a while before he became a 500cc GP rider? Saw him at an open practice day at Calder decades ago, he was so much faster smoother and more in control that the rest of us.

It is most certainly the real KEVIN Magee. Great guy. Was involved with blindspeed with a mate here. Offered him a ride but we both run out of time. He was guiding his mate , a blind rider going for blindfold land speed record. Got his 200 mph license and I think he has caught the salt bug!

Looks like you had a fantastic time, Well done on your runs as well.
All that sun,
and all we have here in the UK is rain and cold at the moment.
No this photo isn't taken in black and white, it's just that gloomy.

YES CRAZY a blind racer...how cool is that. no barriers no glass ceilings. blindness is a hurdle not a life ender. nothing to hit and hurt yourself out on the salt, he has a rider on a bike going down with him calling directions .
tad..we had opposing weather. at least you could warm up. we sat in the tent one afternoon with a battery powered fan with our feet in a bucket of water..
btw preliminary results ar posted on the dlra website...nice to have a red entry meaning record set next to my name..
82.271 mph official . speed

We did ok this year. Still got a few tricks left in my bag for next year. Programable ignition , bigger carb and taller gearing on the charts. Motor bottom end only had 6 kms on it this year so was not even run in.
Please like " blindspeed " on Facebook. They are setting up to break the blindfold land speed record.
My bike is not the slowest bike on the salt but would be nice to push closer to that 100 mph ceiling . Full streamline may be my only chance at that though. Happy with the result and anything over 80 mph is pretty good . My speedo was bouncing between 86 and 87 mph on the end of that run. I think it is a little generous. Seeing figures like that still felt good. Hope I can put the 18 tooth front cog back on next year with a 35/36 tooth rear and push the envelope a little

would love to have a go at something like this although not a lot of Salt here in the UK lol

Thinking out loud:

Would there be anything to gain from putting a scoop on the carb coming out of the side to force more air in ??

Just in front of side cover in front of my knee. Small air intake. Will get more pressurization of air box for next year. Works at speeds over 100 kph. Best to get intake as far forward as possible. Not quite supercharging but should do something. Intake only half finished. Ran out of days to complete. Trailer project got presidence as needed that more. Next year!

when your starting from a low point every littl bit extra helps:)

I remember years ago I was heavily into my Citroen 2CVs a very simple way of getting nearly 10% extra power by adding a bit of tubing.

The standard 602 cc 2CV put out 29BHP whilst the Citroen Dyane (same chassis & engine, different body) put out about 32BHP.

This was primarily (although there was also a higher compression engine) down to forced air induction, there was a pipe from the cooling fan shroud to the carb intake which on the 2cv was blanked off with a plate :)

Actually not far off what I have built. My duct runs where battery was. One bike had a duct that ran over the tank and over the handlebars. It is functional on many modern bikes including zx12 and hayabusa
