ordered a set of clip-ons.....to mount them i need to remove the triple tree... i assume i just remove the three bolts and it pops off?

Yes - bike on centrestand, jack up (block) under engine to take the weight off the front and undo the top clamp. You can leave the drag bars and controls connected for now (you will have enough play to lift the clamp and slide the clip-ons through). Then once you have the top clamp back on, take the drag bars off and switch the controls over ;)

great, thanks. i don't have a wrench that fits the middle bolt... can i use a crescent wrench or is that asking for trouble?

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

Yep, keep the crescent wrench away. While it would surely loosen it, it can round the corners on the nut. What size is it - do you know?

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

Hmmm....not the best idea with the crescent wrench.

You could jack up the front and slide the forks through the trees to mount the clip-ons. Put a block of wood under the centrestand and jack under the motor to lift the front wheel off the ground. You should only need a few inches of clearance, then loosen the pinch bolts on the fork trees and slide them down.

Far easier to get the proper spanner though.....should be around 22mm (??)

my handlebars came in!

so i promptly skipped ju-jitsu and did some installation.

i bought a 30mm socket the other day but i didn't realize until today it was 1/2" drive so i had to run and buy an adapter.

everything went pretty smoothly:

just need grips and i'll be good to go.

i'm going to order a seat tomorrow, here's a mock up of what it should (sort of) look like:

you can see i cut and attached the front fender too.

i'm really happy with the handle bars, i think they look great and installation couldn't have gone smoother which is always a minor miracle when i try to do something motorcycle related.

the bars are a three part system that you can set up different ways and i wish i could have positioned the handlebars closer to me but the triple tree prohibited that. went on a little ride and it still feels pretty comfortable. i think it will be even better when i get a new seat that allows me to sit a little lower.

thank you, hillsy and rich, for the help!

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

the cardboard is too fricken cool.

xD love it man!

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

Looks good! Glad I could help.

What grips are you going with? I just swapped mine out.

Ju-jitsu, huh? Because it's online and I'll probably never meet you, I'm gonna say that's for girls! :D Kidding man - we skimmed a little on ju-jitsu when I took kick boxing - it's some no-nonsense ass whippin.

not sure what i'm gonna get. i'll probably just stop by the moto-shop and pick something out tomorrow.

i wish ju-jitsu was for girls because then i'd be wrestling with girls. :D if i wanted to make fun of ju-jitsu i'd probably point out that it's a bunch of sweaty dudes wiggling violently and hugging each other on the ground. i've only been doing it for a few months, i've done karate for ten years and figured it was about time to learn some ground game.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

If you're interested, I have those ProGrips from DCC that are just chillin in the garage.

That's what I remember from ju-jitsu as well - rolling around and getting my butt handed to me.

thank you for the offer, but grips are cheap and will be installed tomorrow if i just go buy some!

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

some dufus knocked my bike over doing a u-turn in the middle of the street this morning. thankfully he left his contact info and said he'd pay for the brake lever he bent.

got new grips and cut a hole for my mirror in the wrong one! grr. oh well they were only ten bucks.

ordered my seat from glass from the past (http://caferacingparts.com/) today, should be here early next week...

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

my seat came in!

so i switched tanks, cut the crossbar at the rear of the frame down, cut the side panel tabs off the frame, did a little work with the dremel tool, and laid the seat on the bike:

(not the best picture... i'll take better ones once it's finished)

the seat still needs to be attached but i ran out of daylight.

also obviously i'll need to do something different with the license plate and tail light.

i decided to leave the mounts for the stock seat so i can switch out when i want to take the girl for a ride. doesn't look super clean but it's not really a showpiece kind of a bike...

i'm super happy with the way the bike looks though. it's like having a whole new motorcycle!

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

got the seat attached and the license plate mount made.

ran out of bolts so it's only attached at the top... looks pretty jenky right now but this is just kind of a trial run. if it works i'll use some thicker aluminum and do a better job making it.

here's my crooked tail light:

here's the seat and the brace i made:

and a couple pictures of the bike:

now i need a cushion... took it around the block and my bony ass HURT. i'll go get some neoprene tomorrow.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

Just getting caught up....

So where do you get the neoprene from? And did you get a chance to straighten up everything?

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

got the neoprene at a fabric store here in seattle, quite a bit of it for $7 because it had a crease in it that you can't even see on the outside. used three layers of 5mm thick neoprene and it's rideable but still kind of uncomfortable. just got back from a weekend in montana so haven't done any work on the bike. i'll try and tidy it up a bit next weekend. i'll take a picture of the neoprene too. not real satisfied w/ it, cutting it with scissors made it look pretty jagged. not sure what i'm going to do to fix it...

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

argh! i thought everything was good, she's been running so well lately... the first half of my trip to work this morning was good then all of a sudden the bike started bogging down and i thought i had run out of gas. but no the tank was full. the ride home she wouldn't idle and was mostly running on one cylinder w/ the other cutting in intermittently. same thing it was doing when i needed to replace first one then the other coil. i hope one of those new coils wasn't a dud. so aggravating.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

looks like the spark plug cap wire had wiggled loose. disaster averted.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

Good to hear it was something simple.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

a friend of a friend works at a bmw body shop so i'm getting the hook up w/ some paint and dent removal.

so i pulled off my beat down tank and started stripping it.

you can see the original red peeking out from under the rattle can job the p.o. did.

couldn't find the aircraft paint remover stuff so i got some other stuff and it required a lot of work with a wire wheel to get all the paint off.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 (i don't know what i'm doing but i'm having a good time)

i got a new shift cable because my old one really drags in the housing was planning on installing it this weekend while the bike is immobile but since honda made their phillips head bolts out of an aluminum and butter alloy i stripped the second bolt i tried. so it looks like i'm waiting till i can secure an impact driver before this little project gets underway.
