Making a Speedo face?

OK... I'm finding it increasingly hard to find a "mini" speedo and tacho for my A65. I have found 1:2 speedo gears for my bike all over the place but no mini 1:2 guages...

Would it be possible to fit a fairly close ratio speedo/tacho, calculate the difference and print off a new guage face in stick it in? I have the original tacho for my bike I could use as a reference

Haha, Do you get what I'm saying? ::)

As for my tacho, I want to replace it and I'm pretty sure that is a 3:1 or something strange I can't remember and I can't find anything remotely close. Would it also be possible to fit a jap tacho and calculate the difference for a new face?

I may just be crazy or would this actually work? Would the different ratios just not be compatible all together?

Sorry if this doesn't actually make much sense but I described it the best I could! :D

I think it's going to really tough to make it accurate. I recently made a new face for my stock speedo and I imagine not having the original to use as a template for lines would be really difficult. Never know till you try though!

If you're not too fussed about using an analogue set-up you could put on an Acewell unit. Totally adjustable for speedo and tach settings.

Theoretically, it should work well. I think if you have a good CAD or photoshopping software it shouldn't be too hard to work from a template.

It might take a few attempts to get right but you can test it with a buddy down an empty street or by finding a local speed trap sign (i've used these to calibrate speedos before).

I say go for it and show some pics of it once you get it done. For example if you reduce your front wheel size by 10% then your speedo will say you are traveling at a speed 10% higher than you are going since the old speedos are mechanically driven based on rpm.

I've thought about doing this to etend the max speed mine reads since it only goes up to 85, not that I need to really know if im going faster but it was a thought that crossed my mine, especially since I definitely want my cafe racer to do the ton.

Cheers! I know my way around photoshop so that's no problem.

I'll just need to find a speedo with a close enough ratio... Is the thread on a Jap bike speedo much different from a Smiths speedo?
