Maritime's new GL - 2UP Distance eater

not duals they look cool but are a pain in the ass and never help performance at anything
more the wfo been there done that !
i run a single weber on all mine it gets good/better gas mileage better power and simple!

Ok. Last night i pulled the carbs again. Opened the offending carb and pukked the needle. Put Iso in the inlet and it poored right out. Ok so why? Well I noticed I could see the oring on the seat, ok so I realized it was a few mm proud. So I worked it down and fixed the retaining bracket to hold it flush. Put the needle and float back in. Added iso and bingo. Fuel will now flow! And then Jill told me they lifted restrictilns on family visits so we packed the grandkids and took the 2 hours to Nanny and bike will wait to see if its fixed. Pretty sure I got it this time though.

Nicely done Mike, I guess no matter how long we've been working away in our garages the great feeling of figuring out a problem never gets old

Very true. Now if only I could be here and there at the same time to get it running agsin and ride it LOL

There are so many o-rings, jets, etc. on the fuel system for the GL1000 that the odds are NOT in our favor. I wonder how guys like Pistol Pete and Mike Nixon can turn them around so perfectly and fast enough to make a profit.

I pulled mine last week to start a rebuild, got them laid out on the table, son came in a freaked out. Hes only seen the little ct70 carb disassembled.

Alright, the carbs and fueling is GTG now. ran right, hit the ton with lots of throttle left. Reving like a turbine again and smooth as silk again. that's the good. the bad. I buggered the temp sensor somehow as it stopped working, it's still hitting 16V sometimes even with the running lights and high beam on, not as often but still. Other than those 2 which I need to sort it is running great again. I'm pretty sure I did something to the wire for the engine temp with the last removal of the carbs.

So looking up the senor and fan switch are the same unit. In the same location. I know the fan works as when I pulled in the garage, it kicked in to cool the bike before I shut it down, then I turned on the ign again for a second and it ran again. So I did something to the sensor wire going to the gauge. fun times to track that down looking at where it runs. It's right under the carbs so I bet I hit the plug or pinched the wire. I better not have to pull the carbs to fit it.

Cock S*&^%$# SOB, I got a flashlight and shined it in at the sensor and there lies the bullet connector knocked off the sensor by the carb float bowl. Looks an awful lot like to fix it I need to pull the f'ing carbs again. Or find a long set of needle nose or tweezers to reach in and plug it back in. FFS. I don't need the gauge right now, but I will come July Aug when heat and traffic can mean over heating potential.

OK, so a shot of Whisky, propping up the carbs about the inch they can with airbox and all still attached gave just the room I needed to us a long slim flat screwdriver with the bullet connector on the end to re-connect it and we're good. Temp gauge sorted.
