Quick question: The Mrs has had a fascination w/ mopeds and has come across a chance to buy a couple for $200 each. They have been dry stored indoors for years but will for sure need carbs rebuilt as a minimum. I can and will get a brand and model by looking in a window but preliminarily, is a decent shape, probably 10-15 year old moped worth $200?

EDIT: One of them seems to be a white Batavus Starflite. Can't see enough of the other one to read the brand. Nice looking condition, though. Intact seats, shiny chrome, turn signals.

I owned a couple batavus mopeds back in the day. Both seemed to be decent machines. I have been shocked to see the prices sky rocket on mopeds the last few years, making $200 a piece seem a decent price.

I bought a 2002 Yamaha Zuma 50cc two stroke for getting around at our work campus. I loved it so much I started taking it home on weekends and holidays for cruising around the beaches with no concern for parking. I even have the Mrs hooked on it for gelato or ice cream trips.
Recently I bought a 2nd Zuma with a bunch of work done. 70cc, tuned pipe, clutch work, bigger carb. It's Fuuuuun. If for no other reason, get one for the sake of fiddling with a new/weird transmission and clutch and learn what you can from YouTube videos. They're actually really neat.

[Edit] I just realized I was talking about scooters you mentioned moped. I'll bet the logic still stands :)

Moped prices are high here. You can buy just about any 400cc plus motorcycle for the same money. I had an AMF moped for a couple of years and all my friends would ask to ride it. Super fun!

there are a couple of young guys near where I live that zoom around on mopeds. One has a tuned exhaust (expnsion chamber and it fairly screams along. He appears to be having more fun on that thing than I get to have on all my bigger bikes combined.

As an investment - probably not. For smiles and giggles - absolutely.

My best friends parents have two vespas. One day we took them out and were having fun riding them as fast as they could go, until we passed a dude on a harley. Both of us waved at the dude, he gave us a thumbs up... then he turned his thumb straight down and shook his head at us. We hung our heads and went home after that, never rode the vespas again. We were disgraced.
Some of the most fun I have ever had on two wheels

Not a moped but pretty close, my MB5 is an absolute blast to ride. Small bikes are so much fun, most fun per cc you can have if you ask me. Plus they are awesome to work on, so simple and easy. I've often thought about selling mine but just can't do it.

Thanx for the input. They are just down the street from us and we'll get to see them in a few days. I'll comment here when I've got more info.

Nice, I love goofing on Magoo's 50cc scooter. I just got it all sorted and tuned last night with the new proper 2 stroke carb. runs perfect now and does a steady 40 MPH LOL.
