MotoFiaccone Bob--Feb 2011 update

Ha! WTF am I doing over here? I know, right? Well, here she is: 1980 something Suzuki SP125. A dirt bike. One of my best friends from grade school gave her to me. He told me it was a 2 stroke, but when I picked her it, I quickly realized she was a four. A long story, but suffice to say, I owe my friend to complete the build to the best of my abilities.

I have some fun plans to make her into a super skinny, urban fighter with bobber overtones. Of course it will have the signature MotoFiaccone cafe racer foundation. Like all my bikes, weight--or lack thereof--is critical. Wish me luck!

It won't be a fast build, but I promise, it will be some of my best work yet!

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

should be interesting, ill definately follow!

i think it was a bike engine kit he installed on a bike. sort of the route im taking with my board track build im gonna start

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

Whatcha gonna do take the engine out and throw the rest away ;D Is that a piece of metal sticking out of the front tire? Should be interesting either way.

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

You have a heater out there and I'm pretty sure you're iced in (from what I hear from my girl's parents down the street from you.) STRIP THAT SUCKA DOWN! ;D

Damn Chris... Adventurous to say the least... Should be interesting if nothing else. Seen this yet? http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2009/08/27/cb450r-cafe-racer-kits-convert-honda-crf450r-dirt-bike-to-street-legal-cafe-racer/

I dig it, but I'd bump the wheels up to at least an 18 f/b or 19f/18b

That is somewhat what I had in mind, but less cafe racer-ish and more Japanese bobber-ish. Someone posted some photos of some small cc Japanese bobbers that are similar to what I have in mind.

That's not metal sticking out of the tire; it's a weird piece of rubber.

I'm not going to tear the bike completely down yet. I'm off to the powdercoat shop today to get some chips. Once I decide on a color (thinking burn bronze wheels, white frame, raw alloy tank, horse saddle leather seat), the wheels will be sent to Joe. Then the tires get mounted.

Since the tires are so much bigger than stock, that will determine a bunch of things, like how much I can lower the forks and how much the swing arm needs to be extended. Then, it's a simple strip down with minimal fab work. Since the exhaust primary is a simple 1" OD, I might do a full titanium exhaust. The only other fab work is the seating area, the narrowing of the tank (if required) and welding on a bates-style headlight. I want a HUGE headlight. All the bates-style headlights I've seen are rather small. Does anyone know of a huge one, like the size of a CB350/360 or XS650?

This should really be an easy build, but I suspect it will take a while :(

Check out "Land of the Dead" if you haven't already; in the beginning when they go to town for supplies, all the bikes have giant headlights.

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

Here ya go Chris. Cant remember the actual size, but these are pretty big. Around 8" I think. Its 6 volt, but that can be fixed easily enough.

Ohhh. I like that. The bike is actually a 6 volt, so that works perfectly. Thanks for passing that along!

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

You never stop! Can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

I hope to win this tank. if I do, I'll strip the paint off her and give her a quick polish...once. I want the aluminum to age well.

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

Or I may say fuck it and just get the second tank. I actually like that one better because of the dents--I think it will look raw. This thing is going to be skinny, and I do like skinny :)

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

Can't wait to see what you come up with. I like the horse leather seat idea, tooled?

I have an XS650 headlight if you want it. the lens is broken though. bucket and trim in super shape. Its really big.

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

Thanks for the offer. I may be interested indeed. Is it metal or plastic? Is it tough to find new lenses for those lights?

--Thanks, Chris

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

I believe its metal, working from memory here, its all chrome I think. Not sure about the lens. you might check Mikesxs and see if its cheaper to take this and fix it or buy new. You can have this for the cost of shipping and future consideration? ;) I'll click a pic or two and get those to you.

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob

Yeah, this one's gonna be nice. I love the idea of the dented tank, and I love raw metal. This should be very unique when it's done. Nice brain work on seeing the potential there Chris.
