Motorcycle Powered Kart: Father Daughter Project

4 mini X planetary drives and a joy stick, then you only need a 5HP utility power plant and a pump... no speed records in rock "crawling".
I agree. I've seen it on a full scale crawler, seems to me it would be easier on a mini.

This is the perfect solution for this application.
I've reached out to the guys at Peerlessgear and waiting on a response from them.
Will be ordering one in the next day or so.

Now you've gone and spoilt all my fun making my own diff :p

That FSAE Diff is an amazing looking piece of engineering btw.

It's actually easy. Build a bucket with a hole in bottom. Diff attaches to bottom of bucket. Attach lid with a hole to bucket. Attach sprocket to lid. Attach rotor to bottom of bucket. Slide in CV shafts.

@redwillissuperman « You referring to making up a housing for the homemade open diff?

BOUGHT SOME TOYS

Had a serous pow-wow last night.
"A" and I discussed various issues around, design, functionality, style, cool factor and objectives.
A critical issue was brought up, and that was where the picnic basket was going to go.
I was reminded that this was part of the original design :p
We decided that we would have a shallow plastic container over the steering rack that could hold items like a picnic basket.

-----------------------

"A" was super happy about the cool new racing e-brake.
We decided to work on the rear braking system today, which in effect will act as 3 things:

When the car is parked.
If I need to intervene while teaching her how to drive this thing.
If the drums up front prove ineffective in a scenario.

Lightly sanded off the surface rust with fine grit.

IMG_4683_zpsoowlvf3v.jpg

Masked it up.

I'm really proud of her. She did this pretty much all by herself, with only guidance from me.
Shes starting to get a finesse with the rattle can now. At first it was runs and so on, but now the results are starting to show.

-----------------------

I filed and painted the caliper.

The pads were rusty but good. Took off the rust. Masked it up, and "A" shot some black enamel. Good as new.

I had a nice braided hose from another project that I ended up not using - will work perfectly here. And now we're well on our way with this system.

KEY

"A" wasn't crazy about the ATV key.
"Its kinda lame, dad."
I had to agree with her. :)

She designed a new one.

IMG_4701_zpsmitxbkyb.jpg

I modeled it.

Key_zpsfmk0z306.jpg

We printed it.

IMG_4707_zpsqizvoqqv.jpg

She painted it.

IMG_4715_zpsas2abmst.jpg

... And now its cooler. :-D

(The drawing on her key design is her logo - its a storm cloud with a lighting bolt coming out of it)

It really does not matter if this ever even is a finished project.... If it were me, I would drag it out as long as you can... You will never get this time with your daughter back once she has grown.

A little jealous

A few years ago, this was sitting on my friend Miles driveway. He's a Ducati racebike technician, and a customer had brought it in for him to service.

1963 Technocart formula 4 car with a Ducati 250 engine.

Cool car to be sure, but that's no 250. The cam(s) are belt driven, the chain's on the wrong side, and it's got too many cylinders (well, carbs anyway) to be a 250.

Which makes it even MORE cool IMHO. ;-)

Hmm.. I have a decent ducati motor just needs a donor cylinder and piston to run another 4-500 hours and a chassis to chop up and hang it from 8)

Yeah, my bad, its DEF not a 250, that would have been a single! HA HA Its more likely an 850 or something huh?
