My Dad's Bike - 2012 Yamaha FJR1300

Got the top removed and all the hardware out of the way. Hit it with some 320 grit paper on an orbital sander to clean things up. I picked up a can of plastic adhesion promoter that will be going on next.

I think you said you are painting it to match the bike right?

I got the plastic adhesion promoter laid down and two light coats of filler primer. Still looks pretty rough. Not sure if I should live with it and just sand it a bit or take it all the way back down or even throw on more filler....

After some back and forth, I decided to sand it all back down again to remove the rough spots. I was hoping to be done sooner rather than later with this project, but I actually want it to look good, so....

90% of good paint is prep so keep at it.

Having had one of these before, are you using anything in the paint to keep it flexible? These boxes twist and flex a lot while opening and closing. Hate for you to get this all painted to have a big chunk fall off from flexing.

You know... I hadn't considered that.

I know acrylic is more flexible than enamel, but I'm not sure if I can lay acrylic over enamel primer...

Sounds like some research is warranted.

You want something like what they add to auto paints for ABS bumpers and fenders I think.

OK. Done with paint. Also got the tail light (stole the one from my RD200) and turn signals installed.

Wired up the lights. Just need to wire up the bike to match the trailer.

Also need to figure out how to get this hitch installed. Weld? Bolt it up? Both?

And now the hardware is installed. Up next is doing something about these wheels.

Can't have a nice paint job and rusty wheels for sure.

Wire brushed all of the rust off and then hit it with some gloss black spray paint. Polished the hub caps.

New shoes. Just waiting on the hitch for the bike to come in now...

The hitch has been installed and wired to the bike.

Just need to wire up the mating connector on the trailer, now.
