My first

Been lurking around this site for a while now, and since it's too cold out for me, figured I'd share my before/after. Wasn't a huge undertaking like some on here, but it's been fun. It's a 1980 CM400.

Here's when I brought it home.

And here she is now. Hardest part was that seat, inspired by one I saw on here. Been fun so far, already looking for my next!

Lookin' good!

My first bike was an '80 CM400T. I sometimes wish I'd never sold her.

I like it so far, but I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs, so it's been said I look like an elephant riding a pissant. Lol. Got a CB750C I'll be starting soon, while I ride this one.

Re: My first UPDATE

Just a little update. Finally got rid of the huge signals, and it really cleaned her up.

It's amazing how much of a difference a few mods here and there makes. Looks really good man!

Cool little scoot, my first bike was/is a 81 CM400T. It is now a cafe's out hybrid. Have a CB450T motor in her now and it is a great little scoot. Love ripping around everywhere at full throttle. :)

Hey I like the bike looks good. I have an 81 cm400t also. Those look like the replacement and decently prices cone style mufflers they sell for hondas? Did you have to re-jet your carbs? I looked at those mufflers before, but I wanted to see a pic of them on someones bike! glad I did.....might have to get a set for mine...

Guess I should pay more attention to my posts here. Lol.

Nols, those are just Emgo shorty megaphones. I ditched the bladder thingy and welded some pipe on the headers to extend them just a little so they'd clear. I LOVE the sound, but they're pretty darn loud. Thinking of getting the mac 2n1 setup to quieten it down as I live in an apartment complex now.

Maritime, I've been thinking of trying to find one of the 450 motors myself, after I learn to ride a little better. Does it make that much difference really? Mainly be interested in the 6 speed, as I find I'm always trying to shift up one last time. Probably cause of the exhaust being as loud as it is.

The 6th gear is the biggest change, but the oil cooler and the head oil line are well worth the upgrade in the motor. There is a little more power too. I just got back from a 500 mile road trip and the bike worked great 60-70 mph avg cruising speed and the 450 runs at 45-5500 RPM at those speeds where the 400 would have been at 6-7000 RPM and I would be looking to shift. I got about 55-60 MPG as well. Through torrential rain the first day, with pods and not a hiccup. Bike ran like a trooper.

Nice. Sounds like a nice winter project, then. Maybe I'll be able to find a motor by then. Got some other upgrades planned for then, too.
