My new ride....Frankenbike

rufio

Been Around the Block
picked this up from a friend of mine, so that he can finance his newly acquired BMW he picked up at the IRWINDALE speedway swapmeet. I bought his 500 sight unseen, and he told me we can team up and build the bike. So I get to the house and find this era correct ugly as fuck cb500 with a rotted tank, 4 inch extended forks, king and queen seat (seat for sale BTW). We cleaned the carbs and runs, but needs some tuning.

on my shelf i have a cb 750 tank...for what ever reason and I was going to trim and recover a rotted stock seat for my CB350. I like the big tank look, but it sits longer, so I thought, why not mock and fab the 350 seat....... i think thats where we are headed .

I got a pic....its a cool ass king and queen......it has a mini sissybar attched unlike the k/q seats you see now......i'll post it tomorrow when i get back home.
I couldnt stand the bars, so we mocked up the tank, seat, and some renthals we had sitting around. I'm going to put some low rise supers on it.

More tomorrow! for now ....work for money!

When dose Irwindale have a swapmeet?

Annual event http://www.classiccycleevents.com/elcamino.html
Good deals to be had. I'm definitely getting another bike there next year.

Here's a pic of that king and queen seat and the awesome tank. Too bad its rotted to oblivion or I would totally use it. I might turn it into some kind piece of art when I'm through.

It looks sick as fuck JUST LIKE THAT! Look at that side stand!

I know, everytime I look at that tank and seat, I sort of like the look, but its totally not my style. But I kept going back and forth on the whole thing. I wonder what it would look like with the two kenda K761 I just bought? Total mismatch harujuki japanesy confusey style. Thought about painting the 750 tank I have on there now in the same fashion.
I was leaning toward the brattish build side........
Now im wondering if i should go another route.....

Replicate the tank and rock the original look. You can get 7/8 apes, z-bars, etc to finish it off as a period piece...It would handle a bit strange compared to a regular bike, but that style is surprisingly comfortable. Too many period customs have been cut down as cafe, tracker or stock restorations over the year. It would be nice to see some of them left as close as possible to as built, with upgraded tires, out and about keeping a chapter of riding history alive.

So it is! I'll check out some 7/8 z bars, or might even put the crazy bars that was on there originally for the time being, I'll leave the extended forks. I cut the rear fender using the rear turn light bar as the template. I'll still use the sparto light I purchased. This is going to be a slow build. I'll start a thread in the build section. I guess I don't need a brattish bike. I have my little stock CB350 with Rickman bars to satisfy that I guess.

I live in Hacienda Heights I wish I know about it.

Don't let strangers on the Internet tell you how to make your bike look. Let them tell you how to make it run better. Although, I do agree that the seat and tank are badass.

never heard of that irwindale speedway swapmeet.. is it just a general swapmeet or is it motorcycle or car related or both?

It was all moto....with bike show and all.

As far as the build........I couldn't keep it in the psuedochop. It really isnt my style of bike. But all the goods are just easy bolt ons i could put back if i ever wanted. So back to the brat/tracker idea.

Are you capable of making a comment without including some sort or homophobic/racist/generally off putting phrase?
