Hey guys I'm a noob to this site. Been cecking it out for a while now. there are some great looking rides on here and that is always good for inspiration.
I'm so glad I found this site. I've been working on my seca since I bought it back in Dec of 08' this is also my first bike ever.
It's been a mild project, until the cafe look grew on me.

It started out like this.
That's my buddy Rob taking the bike for a ride.

Check out the rusty forks.

This is soon after i added drag bars on it.

Then after my headlight conversion, and bar end mirrors.

I then swaped my gauges from some of Mike'sxs site.

Stripped the bike and got ready for a seat upgrade.

Lost about 35Lbs by removing stock seat and part of the frame, she scoots better now.

I'm planing on building my own side panels out of diamond plate aluminum and painting the bike white and add some black checker strips along the tank and rear cowl.

Anyone else out there with an XJ cafe? (besides ease ;) )

dude i used to have an XJ!!! i rebuilt that sucker from the ground up and used it as my date bike in college while i was building my chops! the girl and i where on this bike 24-7... FAST bike!, you got a great scoot there man! wish i could have slapped on the cafe seat! drain out your fork oil and slap in some 15w, will take out the dive as you rip into your turns! night and day diff over stock! those rims shine up like nothing as well! i did have some clubmans i would toss on every now and then but do not have any pics for some reason! lame... great bike though man!

Thanks for the tips JRK5892.
I did noticed that once I had the forks rebuilt and new oil in them, they still dive a lot and even with extra air in the shocks too. I am running 11 psi right now and that's supposed to be if you weight over 220Lbs and or ride with someone all the time. I will try the different weight oil at the end of summer.

What did you use to shine up your wheels? Mine need some attention.
That photo of the maxim looks awsome. My bike scoots pretty good too and I get 45 MPG average.

I am about to install a spare suppertrapp 4 into 1 system this weekend. I'll snap some pics and show them off.

i was in college when i had it so i am sure i used whatever was cheap at wallyworld... i think it was this:

Bike looks great. The seat works really well.

Welcome to another NC DDT'er.

Thanks for the welcome. I still have lots to do, but one set at the time, right? I'm swaping the tank as well for one off of a XJ650 SECA, in the process of rebuilding that tank rigth now. Might take a week or two.

Where in NC are you?

did you ever try Neverdull? it works better than anything i have ever used. I was funding projects in college by picking up bikes from the pawn shops cleaning them up and selling them. Neverdull worked awesome!!

neverdull is simply godly... Specially when my dad makes me clean his dress up vt750

Good luck with the project

I have NEVER seen a 750 Seca done like that. Pretty cool.
Keep posting your work. Do you plan on a single color theme?

The most important aspect in this mild build is your taste. Very good selection of parts!

I'm just north of Charlotte, near the Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Yeah single color on the cheap for now. I still have an extra tank and front fender that I plan on doing silver next year perhaps.

This is it for now.I did this in the past two weeks.

I installed my 4 to 1 exhaust with supertrapp
Shortened my front fender 3 inches.
Modded the tank a bit by removing stock panel mounting ears.
REAL Napoleon bar end mirrors ( no more vibrating, slipping mirrors)
I still need to work and finish my side panels (that's next)

I know this is not the traditional Cafe Racer bike, the lines are not straight, but I think is sorta road worthy and different.

A lot different from what I started with.

I think that looks awesome! JUST AWESOME!!! i always wondered what it would look like wiht a cowl on the seat. love it man!

I would black out the rear hub and brake drum, It looks out of place with the rest of the bike being blacked out. Or maybe polish to match the headlight bucket. $.02. The bike looks killer anyway. I almost bought one of these but hated the square headlight, the change to a round makes a huge difference in the look. I should have grabbed the bike. Good job, I hear these bikes are super reliable and indestructable.

Cheers,

mine was SICK FAST! i mean sick fast... and the shaft drive worked wonders to keeping the front end down so you could just wind up and drop to launch, i used to spank 600 rockets on the regular! JUST awesome! I miss it! never thought i would but now after a few bikes, i do! may have to scoop up another one, i really like how they look with the seats on there, some clip ons and powder work it would be a SCREAMER!

Hmmm, yeah, now that I look at the hub it does seem out of place. Well, more like it doesn't match the color too well. I wonder how hard it would be to polish the hub and brake drum assembly. painting it would be easier though, but polishing would look real sweet. That and my risers will be on my to do list. For now, I'm having too much fun riding it. ;D

JRK: you're right, My bike for being a 750 is pretty darn fast even for it's age and weight (530LBS stock) I think I'm down to just under 500 Lbs with all the junk I removed. I see these bikes for less than a grand all the time and running great. YES they are hideous IMO when stock and with those square lights, but they can be turned into something decent if you take your time. I'm not sure how much time or more money I will invest on this bike as I would like to buy a 78 CB750K in the near future. I like the fact that this is different than most Cafe bikes, but I just dig the CB's a lot.

EASE's bike was a huge inspiration to turn my bike into what it is now. When I first came into this site, I was drooling and checking out everyone's Cafe's and I like the fact that a lot of people here are all about doing things for themselves and helping each other out. 8)

Thanks a lot for the coments guys. I really enjoy this site and the suport. Now, if I could only find other cafe racers near Raleigh NC....... ::)

Okay, now you have THE coolest 750 Seca ever. Well done. I think "black" on the rear shaft housing. Yeah, for their day the 750 Seca was a ball-hauler; my good buddy had one with a 'Trapp on it and we worked the carbs and put filters on it, he was juuuuuuust a bit behind my Z1 when it had similar mods...good running bikes.
