new boots that i dont want to ruin

Coast to Coast
I tried searching but im not sure how to word this so my results didnt match what i was looking for. so i got a new pair of boots recently and dont want to ruin them on my shift lever. my rear sets are painted knurled aluminum so they left paint and aluminum on the toe of my old boots. is there something I can wrap the little shift peg in to keep it from screwing up these new boots? or is there any other way to stop it from happening? the boots are tan swede kinda, so that doesnt make it easier. any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

How about some natural rubber surgical tubing? Stretch that over the lever. Sunlight would probably break it down after a few months, but it's something...

And there's always rescue tape...one of the "must haves" in my tool kit nowadays...

A little hard to find, but comes in several colors (indluding black), and it's great for wrapping around shift pegs, etc...

Don't remember where I saw it (maybe on here somewhere or ADV Rider?), but, gear change roller.
Basically, a tube over the normal toe part counter-bored for recessed Allen bolt
I'm going to do mine when I get back to it

TonUp, just looked up that rescue tape stuff and it looks pretty damn cool. i might need to get a couple rolls just to check it out.

PJ, good idea, that would take the friction out of the equation and it would just be pressure on the boot. I think I can find some nylon spacer that I can somehow attach so that it spins freely on the peg but wont come off. thats what you were talking about, right?

Yep.
I was thinking of cutting the end off toe piece, drilling 4mm~5mm and tapping for Allen bolt then making a roller similar to the rubber that's on there now.
You can buy the piece to modify any lever, just forget where I saw it

Followup on the rescue tape...it's hard to find unless you order it online (and pay shipping) or go to a boat supply store. Home Depot sells a similar product, with some lengthy name, like "self-vulcanizing repair tap", or something like that...usually next to the electrical tape...

I feel like I'm a shill for rescue tape, but in addition to cushioning shift pedals, it really comes in handy for repairing and insulating worn-out electrical connections on 30-year old bikes...not that I would ever ride a bike with dubious electrical connections, no sir, and find myself on the side of the road...at night...trying to reassemble the spaghetti inside my headlight shell...

I You got ridding boots but dont want to skuff them ahh you sit down to piss

A) Theyre not riding boots. B) I'm improving a part of my bike. C) Yer a dick.

Ive practically worn a hole through my old boots in one season. the alum knurling on the shift peg is sharper than i thought. wait, why am i explaining myself to you. what i meant was shut up.

Get a long strip of sand paper, sand the under side of the peg like someone would shine a shoe.
to knock the high pionts off the knurls where you shoes hit

See im a dick with a heart of gold hah

laugh, you gave me an idea. i could wrap it in shoe shine cloth and just have one really well polished spot on my boot.

Rotating toe piece is supposed to be more comfortable if your doing a lot of gear changing which is why I'm going to try it
