New CL100 Owner

If it ever does start acting up, cutting out. Try turning the headlight off. Mine started doing that all of a sudden. Turned the light off and she smoothed right out.

Haha, good call. It reminds me of the temperature gauge in my truck, which reads 20% higher when the headlights are on since I installed a bigger alternator from a different manufacturer. I almost never drive at night so it took me a while to realize what was going on.

Nice! I wish I had 20 miles of dirt road around here to scramble on.

Yeah, I wish I had more but at least I have some, and for the most part they're totally empty. The new tires I picked up are 80/20 for a reason, haha. Now I just have to mount them.

My lunchtime pre-ride inspection revealed I'm losing a little oil under pressure- looks like it's coming through the back of the right crankcase cover. Not too bad. The clutch cable needed a little adjustment and I had to zip-tie the right rear passenger footpeg in place- it keeps falling down and makes kick-starting awkward. I'll have to figure out a better solution later. Even though I'll rarely have a passenger, I want to keep those on the bike.

What do you guys think of the plug?

I ordered new heat shield clamp insulators from a dealer in Kansas. Nobody else had them. They're pricey. I thought about making my own out of a rubber silicone hot pad, but they look like they have asbestos or some kind of fiber embedded in them, so I gave in.

If shes starting and running good...then that plug looks GREAT! Dont mess w anything. lol How old is that plug...new?

Funny I zip tied the right passenger peg on mine...cause it wont stay up. super weird

Could you post a better pic of the plug so I can see the center porcelain ?

I will later today. Thanks!

The bike starts on the first kick, even when stone cold. Over the past four days I've only missed a couple times out of the few dozen I've started it. On the other hand, the idle isn't quite right. Sometimes it idles great, others it's too high, and occasionally I have to blip the throttle or it stalls. Operating temperature doesn't seem to be a big factor, though the way I have it set now it won't idle until it warms up. It has stuttered a few times when I've snapped the throttle wide open from lower RPM, but not severely.

I noticed the mounting tabs on mine are different on the left and right. On the left they're square, but on the right a 45 is cut on the top outside corners. I have no idea why they're not the same, but clearly the 45 on the right is too generous.

The latest piece to vibrate off the bike. It fell onto the pavement when I pulled the key out of the ignition at the hardware store earlier this afternoon. Fortunately, the carabiner I put on the key chain yesterday was just large enough to catch it en route. How do I tighten it back down- is the special tool still available, or do I need to make something?

Here are more exciting spark plug shots. My gf came home late from the barn, so it has another 80 or so back-road miles on it since the photo posted earlier; riding comes before science.

The weather was perfect again this evening. When I stopped to fill up the tank (1.1 beautiful gallons) I had a brief conversation with a nice guy on a newer Triumph 900 who was a big fan of the CL.

How's the inside of your tank, did you get most of the rust out of it ?

It's clean, and there didn't seem to be much rust. The decaying liner turned out to be 99% of the mess. It makes me think lining it again might be the way to go.

Exactly the same as mine.

When I look at your spark plug, the one you say is a new one.. it almost looks like it could be getting some specs of rust particles burning onto it,possibly from the rusty dust in the tank.. I can't be sure though.

I got a set of Duro HF319 and new tubes and rim strips for $80. They look very similar to the Nitto/IRC combo that's on the bike now.

Nice! I run HF319's on my 125. I actually haven't found anyone else who runs them on the 125. These Duros are pretty good tires, and I think they look a lot better than gazelles:

I have a set of HF307's that I'm going to roll on my Billiwhacker project for an even beefier look.

I think you're right. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll take the petcock and float bowls off today to check if they're dirty again.
