New CL100 Owner

You could spend a buck or two on a cheap socket to cut up, or buy a cheap version on ebay for 10 bucks.

I had spare clutch parts kicking around from an old CRF100 I no longer have; I think they fit CB125, ATC125, 200X, CRF80, and CRF100. The springs were still within the correct rate so I used them. My bike sat out for a long time, but it only had 2k miles on it, so most the internals were still good.

Not much is happening with the CL while I wait for clutch parts, but today the mailman brought this:

Thanks, trek! I've missed my center-stand. Your ABS went out this morning.

Hey you other guys with CL100, can you help me identify a part? My '70 has a single-piece clutch and exhaust stay. Or, it used to be a single piece; when I took off the pipe today I realized it was cracked in two near the lower mounting point (a bolt that also runs through the frame and motor).

Here's the view as it would appear mounted on the bike:

And here's the view from the back of the part:

I can't find this part in the fiche (disregard the pipe clamp I left bolted to the top of the stay). I think it's been replaced by two separate pieces:

On the "FRAME + SIDE COVER" page:
9 50356-107-000 RECEIVER, CLUTCH CABLE

And on the "CL100K MUFFLER" page:
8 18284-108-000 STAY, EX. PIPE (NOT AVAILABLE)

Can anyone confirm? There's no "discontinued" two-piece equivalent part in the fiche that I can find. Anyway, I'll probably try welding mine back together, but it'd be nice to know what to get when I screw it up.

That clutch cable guide/stay looks modified. On my 70 CL100 it is only the smaller peice. It's hard to tell in the picture, but it looks like that extension piece was welded on at some point. I can take a pic of mine later if you need for reference.

Thanks. The "extension piece" is the pipe stay. My part is made of two separate pieces- the pipe stay and the clutch stay, welded together. I'm not sure why they're welded, but the pipe stay is sophisticated enough that I have to assume it came from the factory.

Where does your pipe stay mount? The pipe stays I see online appear to be half the length of mine.

Mine 72 is also just the single little cable clip deal. without all the other.

Well, I finally found it, set off by itself in the corner of the fiche.

I must have an early bike. It's "8 50355-108-020 RECEIVER, CLUTCH CABLE | Use from Frame SN 100002 to 108890" on the "frame + side cover" page.

good show man! sucks its not available. But as long as you got a welder...get busy!

BTW the plastic fender tag looks good, sanded both sides so they match ;)...I could tell ya its vintage bakelite and you would never know the difference.

Cool! Did you post it in your thread? I didn't see it.

Nope, but I will. tomorrow. Planning to ride her to work tomorrow. the guys want to see her all decked out w the new goodies.

More exciting gas tank news: I ordered an endoscope off Amazon over the weekend so I could take a better look inside. I had no idea these cameras were so cheap ($18!) or I would have bought one before I started. This is by far my new favorite tool. My gf thinks I'm crazy because I won't stop talking about it.

Anyway, when they did the liner in my tank, it appears excess liquid pooled in the far back corners:

Or so I imagine. The BBs in the second shot are mine, and they're embedded in liner goo that was only partially melted by my first MEK treatment. That's my guess, at least. As much as I hated working with that solvent, there's more in there now loosening up the rest of the goo. It was sticky when I was poking it with a coat hanger but solid enough that it stay put.

Dude, thats friggin cool, gross but cool. ;D

I know. I felt like Jacques Cousteau snaking that thing around in there. "Zhis will be zhe firss time zhe back side of CL won-hondred pet-cock ehver zeen on camehra. Amazhing in eets natoral abitat."

You going to use more solvent w/ sheet metal screws to loosen it up perhaps?

Thanks to the endoscope, I can see what I'm doing when I poke around with the coat hanger, so I might try that. But if the fumes from the MEK are too noxious, which wouldn't surprise me, I'll go with some screws.

I also picked up a great collection of boiler brushes at my local flea market, after waiting a half hour for customer service at my Home Depot to finally tell me they couldn't get anything like them. I already used the big one to free up some junk I hadn't spotted on the underside of the top of the tank around the hole for the gas cap.

Literally laughing my ass off.

That carburetor is going to be very happy when you're done w/ the tank;it'll get crystal clear fuel to feed the engine and real nice atomized fuel/air mixture equals good clean power w/o too rich mixture which fouls the piston and rings w/ carbon. Nice work ;)

Thanks! I'm glad you caught the flecks of junk on my plug or I'd still be clogging it and fouling it.

Here you can get a sense of the high-water line for both the MEK and rust remover:

I'll put together a watertight seal and leave the tank inverted for a while the next time I treat it.

That is extremely cool! Very useful to know what's going on in there. The things I would do with one of those ::)
