Been Around the Block
DTT BOTM WINNER
Now that the cb 125 is finished ( I have decided that I am going to keep it) I am going to start this back up.Started this a while back but didnt want to spend $ on a bike that wasnt street leagal, so I am just going to slowly try to put something together out of it, and beg borrow or maybe fiberglass something for trade of parts that I will need. So to recap basicly I want to build a super small race bike alonge the lines of vintage 50cc gps using modded pit bike parts. Money is tiiiiiight, but I have fiberglass left over so we will see. some 50cc gps

Re: new project (restarted)

that thing is extremely badass!

SELL ME IT!

haha

ive been dying for a honda C70.... would do something similar to it i think...

Re: new project (restarted)

I have another stock frame you pay shipping and its yours. Let me know and I can post pics.

Re: new project (restarted)

That is insane! I want to build one. Did you build that frame from scratch? How about some more info like:
Wheels?
Forks?
Frame?
Swing arm?
Rear damper?
Motor that you'll use?

Like I said, I really want to build one now! There is bound to be a way to get that registered. Hell, I built a car from scratch and figured out how to get a state issued VIN for it--and register it.

Re: new project (restarted)

The frame, swing arm, and forks are all chinese pit bike off of ebay I got for $90. So its basicly a honda rip off. I cut a bunch of stuff off and welded on the new rails. The wheels are off some honda, they are just temps. I have a complete stock extra frame, swing arm, and shock I am going to get rid of, maybe the front end too, I am thinking after looking at more pics of rc115s that I am going to use a moped front end.

Re: new project (restarted)

So that setup works fine with the 18" honda wheels? What sort of motor do you plan to use?

--Thanks, Chris

Re: new project (restarted)

Brilliant!!! I have questions. What are you doing about the axles? are they the right size?
How long is the swing arm?
how long are the forks?
why are you switching the forks?
is there enough travel with the ones you have?
Do you think a something like a nighthawk 250 fork would be better suited? It is a 18" wheel....

I cant wait to get started on one of my own.

Re: new project (restarted)

Thanks, Think its cool you guy are in to the little dude. the prob with the front end is the triples have so little offset, there is a clearence problem. The wheels are 17" I am going to use hutchenson moped race tires 2.25x17 on 1.2 rims. I am going to use a 1975 cb 125 rear hub and brake, also going to convert rear to dual shocks, that mono is a real turd. dont knows how long swinger is I think its 18". still considering a aftermarket mopped front end, but I am trying 75 cb 125 front this weekend, just need to shorten the stem. I think the forks need to be between 24-26 inchs. Frame is all painted, body work is all roughed in fiberglass. post pics soon. As for the engine thinking along these lines
http://stores.wholesale-cycle.com/-strse-1256/PIRANHA-160cc-ENGINE/Detail.bok. takegawa has crazy stuff but costs thousands not hundreds. I have a extra frame, if someone is interested.

Re: new project (restarted)

This is really such a kickass project. A lot of times, you see pretty much the same stuff around here, which is understandable. But this bike really sticks out. I'd love to get a scale for how big te bike is.

I hate to continually ask these questions, but this is really new to me. In looking around, it looks like the frame is pretty standard and the piranha engines just clip right in. But what about the swing arm? I could make one from scratch pretty easy, but I really like your setup. What bike is that from?

Dont worry ask away, Its I think a 18 inch of off ebay, think it was $90, search pit bike and their should be tons.
Also I figured ot the front end In theory I guess, I am going to use stock crf70 forks with a 1975 cb125 tripple and stem, with crf70 hub and brake laced to the 17x1.2 rim.

Re: new project (restarted)

Most of the rough glassing is done, I am going to make some small changes though. I took some shots to help with the scale of this thing.
Here is a cr115 and a crf 70, the scale between the two shots is almost perfect. The two are very close in size.

Re: new project (restarted)

got a yx 140cc crate motor, started painting parts to mimick old sand cast mag. My cb125 triple tree is still at the machine shop getting the stem modified,I am going to start assembleing my hybrid front forks (crf70 tubes with cb125 legs). I am also converting the rear end to dual shock instead of mono. Here are some pics including first real mock up, with temp front end and wheels.

Re: new project (restarted)

this thing is something else. would like to see a bit on the tank? a fiber glass tank has been really getting into my head for my next project. i believe ccrider had a sick thread for one. anyways keep up the work the bike looks like it will whip around town

Re: new project (restarted)

this thing is gonna be really cool!!! i wanna build something small next for my girl "aka another bike for me...

Re: new project (restarted)

This is going to be super cool! I love the narrow tank/seat theme! 8)

Re: new project (restarted)

Thanks all, This thing better be fun to ride otherwise it will have been a huge waste of time!!!

Re: new project (restarted)

badass, but why dual shocks instead of mono...looks so clean with that shock tucked under there

awesome!! I hope you see this through. Another stand-out build. I'm personally in 2 minds about the shock. Twins mounted vertically would give you the 'replica' look, but a mono would match the front end better. What ever you do will be killer. I love it.
