G.Day from Sydney. Definitely new to this forum, but not to others, so i do know the etiquette and i promise i wont babble on about crap. I also promise to search the forum before asking stupid questions, as this is one of my biggest bug bears.

anyways, the story with me is, yes i used to ride , oh so many years ago, mostly jap bikes , but i did at one stage own an old Ural with a chair. Great fun to ride. i have been toying and wanting to do a bobber project for so long but due to family work and all those other things that one must deal with, never got the time.

well, this year in July, i am headin over the the US to do the family touristy thing, mostly along the West Coast, starting in LA then headin up to Canada, my wife has family over there. The biggest thing for me will be wanting to pick up an oldie for a project, a sporster is my preferred bike, but will see what happens when i get there. only want to spend about 1000 to 1500 USD. any chances of finding something? ( please help me on that one)

So, in the mean time , i will be doing some research on where to get a bike, wreckers, used bike sales shops, the private sector, news paper adds.

Hopefully with what time is left, i can get to know some of you guys better and maybe when the time is due one of you guys could meet up in either LA or San Fran and show a newbie round the right spots. Who knows.

Anyways, so glad i found this site, so far lots to look at, more research for me. If there is anything you guys want to know about me or what other hobbies i have, then ask away...

Cheers Hobes.

Welcome to the site man!

As far as picking up the project bike.....are you going to be shipping it back to OZ for that price as well?

No, I would expect to pay around a grand? i have not looked at that yet. But no matter what it will still be sent home. i cant buy Harleys as cheap as you guys can sell em for. besides, think of the memories, of a long forgotten holiday, when i am old and greyer than i am now, with my grand kids sitting on my knee, wizzing around in my bobbed zimmer frame......

Ah, ok.

Old Sporty's can be found pretty cheap sometimes, but I would recommend looking on all the local Craigslist ads OUTSIDE of California. While I live in the East Coast (about) of the US, I've noticed that bikes tend to get pretty expensive in California.

cheers for the heads up. this is the sort of thing i am hoping to gain from this forum, some inside tips and recommendations on what and where to get one from.
