Hi so a 76 gl1000 is coming into my care and its rough ill be honest but its like 80-90% their well including the multiple boxes of parts the person Im getting it from will be delivering the bike and parts yhis week so I havent inventoried anything yet to see Whats missing or needs replacing I just trying to some leg work before I get it based off wHat the current owner had told me and he said he had it running like 3 months ago but the wiring wasnt the greatest that would be the main issue and it doesnt have a seat and needs to be put back together ect but Im pretty mechanically inclined but wiring isnt my strong suit and wanted to know if I should just try to find a plug and play harness sorry for the run on sentences and no punctuation thanks for any advice

Put some effort into punctuation and paragraphs - will be a lot easier to sort out what you're asking :)

For some GL inspiration, here is my friend Paul's bike - El Guapo.

I think it will make a great cafe racer project.
If it's had wiring issues I would replace the rec/regulator for insurance, replace any connectors that are sus and get it all working before modding anything.
Then when doing the wiring for the new frame crimp and solder every lug as you go.
Good luck with your project

I've seen a few really stuff looking gl1000s in cafe/brat style....they do look thuggish :)

Your lazy writing makes the reader work harder ;)

I've had a few GLs and always mean to build one out. I think that will finally happen for me, so I hope it happens for you.

Let me recommend a forum dedicated to the old girls: ngwclub.com - very helpful guys there and links to shop manuals and such. The '76 has the terrible emergency lighting setup but that site has instructions on how to disable it. They also have a new-to-you GoldWing section and Shoptalk that answers 90% of question for Naked GoldWings.

Thanks you and Ive joined them I havent heard about the emergency lighting?

I guess reserve lighting unit is the proper name. A pack of resistors that go along with diodes to switch light filaments should one headlight filament burn out. Something fancy extra that they added and then removed. Oh, and also check the frame cross member that the center stand mounts on. They are known for rotting out. Appears they were overstressed, too because Honda added extra gussets to it for the '79 models. For a seat you might look into finding a scrapped K&Q seat (they were awful to ride on) and cut the foam down, recover it. Or just use the pan to build a new seat on.

Oh okay definitely will have to look into the lights and yeah I plan on making a seat from scratch

Just for a few ideas.
