Number plates?

I've been toying with the idea of putting number plates on the DS7. They'll be somewhat smaller and slightly stylized, but I'd like to stay kinda true to the era. The research I've done has found that a 250cc racebike back in the early '70's would've carried a plate with a green backgound and white numbers. Can anyone confirm or deny this, or care to elaborate any on the subject?

Are you talking about the 'pedestrian slicer' plates on the front fender?

Negative. I'm referring to the oval shaped plates on the sides and front of a racebike.

I can't confirm or deny the authenticity of the colors of the plates. But as far as elaboration goes, generally I think #plates look cool as hell when done right.

It's gonna wait until after I repaint the bike though.

250's were green background with white numbers.
350's were blue background with white numbers.
AHMRA, VRRA, FIM et al generally use(d) the same colours.
There are some beautiful photos of the '60's race bikes on the web and an outstanding youtube video of a Yamaha TR2 (350) and TD2 (250) in a museum setting.
If you're being pedantic, Stan Nicholson from the VRRA probably has the correct colour for the green but it looks pretty much like Sherwood or British Racing Green to me.
For my ersatz 350 TR2, I lucked out and found a Tremclad spraybomb blue that pinned the colour I needed "close enough for me".
Sounds like a cool idea. Post a picture when you're done.
BTW, should be oval, not rectangle number plate for that era.
