Although I now reside in Dallas TX. I grew up in West Linn, and head back fairly often. The last time I was there I discovered Kellys Olympian in downtown Portland proper (by way of the awesome painting on the side of a building somewhere along Sandy... or Burnside or something like that on the south side), which seemed pretty cool but was also pretty dead when I went in.

What are some of the must hit places next time I'm in town? Portland seems to have a much stronger vintage vehicle thread than North Texas, I've seen more cool cafes there in the little time I've been around than I've ever seen here. In the past I've tried unsuccessfully to plan my trips around the vintage races at PIR.

Some of my regular haunts (in no particular order):

Slow Bar
Scooter's
The Black Cat
Horse Brass
EastBurn
Speakeasy Tavern
The Slingshot
Jolly Roger
Lutz Tavern

And if you like a view with your libation:

Devil's Point
Acropolis
Sassy's

Really all depends on your "scene". I prefer a solid dive bar. Kelly's is pretty good for being in Downtown proper, but a lot of the more popular joints on that side of the river are douchebag magnets.

Agree on the douchebag magnet thing. Sandy Hut, club21, pretty much anything on hawthorne, all seem to be ok. For downtown I prefer the matador or bitter end. I have met quite a few people at the sandy hut with bikes and there are often 10-15 bikes parked outside, but the crowd is pretty hit or miss. Of course I'm also a dive bar fan so you may find interest in none of these places....

Hit either SausageMahoney or myself up when you're around and we'll make sure to show a good time. It'll give you a chance to see his wicked little orange 360 too. (BTW you're one of his heros ;D)

Are there any non bar hang outs for the cafer? I'm 3 hours south of PDX and plan on riding up this summer.

Well, you can't swing a dead cat in this town without hitting a coffee joint if that's the kind of hang out you're looking for.
