Paintitallred CB550 Scrambler Build

Re: Paintitallred CB550

I tinkered a lot tonight. Got some spare bars from Mothgils pile which I blasted and powdered silver. I also blasted and powdered the rear grab bar the same color.

I bought the wrong battery as well. I filled it and got down to the shop and then noticed it was wrong. There was no going back so I chopped a spare battery box to fit the slightly longer battery.

I also painted the headlamp yellow and finished up the wiring.

The bike starts and runs however it's not right. 2 cylinders heat up real fast while the other 2 seems to be 100 degrees off. I'm getting 300-320 on 2 and 200 on the others. This is measuring right off the upper header about an inch from the collar. I'm not sure where to go with this honestly.

On to progress pics.

Re: Paintitallred CB550

I did some more tuning last night. Bike is a bit rich but seems to be hitting properly on all 4 cylinders. Also they are all measuring around the same temp now which is a huge plus. I'm going to move the clip from 3 to 2. Any suggestions on that?

110 main
38 pilot
3rd clip

Carbs are the 087's.

Re: Paintitallred CB550

Looking good. I like the yellow tint on the headlight. I tried to do it with the film once but the stuff I bought was too cheap/stiff and wouldn't conform.

Re: Paintitallred CB550

3rd clip should be good. the difference in temps at the head pipes is telling you your sync is off assuming valve clearances and ignition timing are in spec and compression numbers are similar.

Re: Paintitallred CB550

I've made some light progress. Nothing earth shattering. I'm hoping to finish paint prep and possible paint tonight. Still working on the fender mount as well. Overall I'm loosing steam. Probably due to silly deadlines I give myself every year before our Kentucky trip. I blame Logan most of all.

try clear yellow model paint, prob Tamiya, its water based and thins down easy so should go on fine (as well as being easy to remove when you need/want to)
it should also be able to handle the warm of a headlight as the lens is nicely air cooled
there also seems to be many sources on the bay of E but as you say the cheaper stuff prob won't bend to a complex curve like a bike headlight
you could get better light penetration in fog/snow/rain but shouldn't make too much diff the rest of the time. they were compulsory in france for a long time so (apart from going on strike more often than usual) they should be fine for normal use
you might also want to check if they are legal in your area

That's exactly what I used (Tamiya). I've used it on a few vehicles and have had great lasting results.

What color are you going to paint it?

It went from red to orange. The side covers still need shot to match the headlight bucket and tank.

No lol. It has ridden on many cars I've built over the years. Currently it rides the CT70.

The shape of the Beetle hood is great for launching pigeons. Shoots' em up in the air a good 40 - 60 ft.

That's definitely something I never experienced haha. Though I definitely agree. It's like a bird vert ramp.

Side covers are painted to match the tank and headlight. I also installed the new grips and bark busters.

Wheels and tires are at a local shop. Should be picking them up Monday or Tuesday. While I was there I found a badass back rest for the wife and a good place to tie gear on. Hopefully I can get it off the lift this week for some road time. I think it's almost there.
