Passenger Pegs CL350

Hello again!

I am looking for more information about the use of the passenger peg brackets on my CL350. I removed the brackets themselves for aesthetic reasons, but I am questioning if they serve a purpose to the swing arm? Is it safe to run without them?

Thank you

Are you talking about the mounting plates that tie the swingarm to the frame? I'd keep them.

They are the brackets that have the passenger foot pegs mounted to them. The swing arm bolt does go through them, but its hard to tell if they actually serve a purpose to the swing arm.

Pull one bracket off and see if the swingarm is located on a bracket inside the peg bracket. That was a clumsy sentence, but you know what I mean.

If there's a stiff enough bracket welded to the frame tubes locating the swingarm you will probably be OK. Post a picture and people will be able to comment

I can take a picture this evening. As far as I can tell the only thing holding the swing arm on would be the bolt through the frame and arm and the shocks

lots of the cafe bikes remove these brackets when they put rearsets on so i would have thought they should be ok

If it were mine, I would keep that bracket. It's there to tie the swingarm to the side frame tubes for stiffness. I know this is a street bike, but I once followed a 350 Honda around the race track without those plates and the rear wheel was moving in several different directions. It's better to keep the plates. The bike will feel much nicer to ride even on a mild curve. Without them it might look cool but handling will be vague.

You could fit your pegs in those side plates, or modify the plates to allow the new rearset brackets to fit over them.

You need those plates. On my 350 racebike I have them welded to the frame in addition to the bolts for extra rigidity for the swingarm pivot. Framecrafters did it when they braced my frame, welded the spot welded seams and lengthened my swingarm. My rearsets are mounted in the bottom bolt hole for those plates.

i just fit mine back together today and i can tell you they stabilize the swingarm

its a small long bolt and the passenger peg plate holds teh bearing caps in place and provides

outboard mounting points i would keep the plates but you could trim the peg mounts off the plates

but keep the swing arm mount and the 3 frame bracket bolts

i was going to do away with mine but after a good think and taking on board what some of you racer etc said I decided to cut and weld them and il mount my rear sets on the 2 rear bolt holes on a plate it does mean I got to paint my frame again but at least il have the price of mind they’re nice and strong now
