Re: Ride this weekend - A proper start to the new year
Thanks for posting that! It was definitely a good read. I know Im not leading any time soon. I do take direction very well though! ;D
So I just got off the phone with my friend that I met from my endorsement class. He is going to try and log into DTT and say whats up to you two and whoever else in the NW here. He is definitely up for riding this weekend. Sat afternoon sounds good. Looks like we just need to narrow a time.
Considering Valvesprung lives in our area, maybe you (Indie) would be up to meet us up over this side of town. We can meet at Ava's or we can even meet at my place which is like 5 mins from Ava's. My friend lives in Multnomah Village so super close by as well. Just a thought. We should try and firm something up though so everyone knows whats up.
I'll holla at you both on FB. See you boys this weekend for sure!
Thanks for making it out today, Sonic. It was an awesome time despite the cold. You and your friends Kevin and Paul are good people and it was cool to see that 160 out on the road. You may have missed it, but some girls were checking out your bike at Ava's.
Yea man! Thanks for meeting up & takin the lead Indie. It was definitely cool & loads of fun for sure. It was very nice meeting up finally and putting a face behind the name. I hope we get to ride again together soon.
Good news!!! I think my "clutch" issue is really just a dead charging system causing misfires...not used to two strokes...
If all goes well the guy selling me a 175cc top end will be able to hook me up with what I need to fix that too and I'll be on the road in a few more weeks...with a 25% power increase over stock...and I think it's been running at less than stock power with this issue...super stoked...
No kidding? That's awesome! I'm sure you've got it covered, but let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
The few things I've learned about bikes over the last year go right out the window on two strokes. I didn't even know until the other day that they don't have cams, and that the engine can actually run backwards if the timing is way off. Have Cafe Racer Ypsi to thank for that bit.
I mentioned on PNWriders that we were riding and a few of them actually came along. It was a good time, despite being a bit foggy. Sonic's CB160 draws a bit of a crowd everywhere it goes.
Sorry man. I'm no photographer. That much is certain.
It depends. I feel like I might have a pretty busy weekend planned, but I have to get home and consult "The calendar". It may only be paper, but it rules my household. Also, my bike has to be running, and it wouldn't start last night. Pulled the plugs and one was fouled out (#4). I forgot to prime the bike on a couple of mornings and it was kind of a pain in the ass to warm up. Then I think I flooded it last night trying to get it started. I think that may have something to do with it.
I put some new plugs in and charged the battery overnight. We'll see what happens after I get home from work.
it's pretty funny how we all walk outside, helmets in hand, wondering if our bikes are going to start this time or not because honestly, we don't know. normal people would immediately sell the unreliable piece of junk and buy something else. we're a strange breed.
Yeah. I hope this was just me being dumb during those cold starts. I was able to get it to start yesterday after a bit of work, but it ran like shit. Pulled the plugs and 1,2 and 3 were wet, and 4 was sooty and fouled out again. The exhaust pipes also got warmer as I went from 1 - 4.
I'm going to try and work the gas out of the cylinders tonight (thanks to swaps for giving me an idea on how), throw the cleaned plugs back in and see if I can fire it up. That #4 plug makes me wonder if something didn't get into that carb though. On the bright side, my exhaust and jet kit arrive today, so those carbs are coming out anyways. I just want to try and get it running right again before I dive into that.
Any ideas on why #4 would be sooty and fouled and 1 - 3 were wet? Just maybe cylinder 4 was able to clear itself out enough to fire, but fouled itself in the process? Just trying to understand.
BTW....caught your FB page on craigslist there Indie. Props on that! I found this dude posting about finding some old vintage bike guys in the area and I emailed him. I sent him your link so hopefully our group can grow! ;D
Nice. Ultimately I'd like to get some kind of regular vintage bike night kind of thing going on. Hopefully we can get enough people together to have someone say, "You know, I know of a perfect place....." Who knows...I might have to go out and actually look for a venue that might be supportive of such a thing. I just want to start the ground work now so I have something to put together.
I did read about a vintage bike museum in portland that has some sort of bike night thing on the first and third tuesdays of the month, but the article was from a few years ago and I've never heard anything about it anywhere else. Might have to cruise down there some week just to give it a look.
I replied to that same guy on CL and pointed him here to this forum. Sounds like he's trying to arrange some big GTG's too so it should be a cool summer!
We may alos need a support group for those of us who spend way too much time on CraigsList...searching for things like "cafe, CL , CB, KZ, bobber, vintage"...etc etec etc...
I missed that CL posting somehow. Hope he gets some response and it'd be cool if he ended up here. I'd love to see some regular vintage events going on in this area.
Edit: And I can quit any time I want, man. Stop hassling me! Gotta go check CL.
