Pet peeve, is it just me?

Been Around the Block
One of my biggest pet peeves in life is when bike specific things such as magizines, builders, etc start combining custom cars to the mix. Such as when Sucker Punch Sally suddenly became a hot rod shop also... Is it just me? I think it's better to " dance with the one that brought you" , and comes across as desperate or greedy, certainly dis-loyal to your core audience.

This rant/ vent/ question come on the heals of learning that are local (seccesful) Mods vs Rockers event has decided to merge with another super seccesful hot rod show. What says Mods Vs Rockers like a few hundred cars? To quote a good friend and DTT member, " I feel like I just got screwed out of Christmas".

Agreed.
cant think of how may companies, restaurants, shops and so on i have seen try to widen their horizons and just end up a watered down f'ed up shell of something cool.

It would piss me off if I didn't like hot rods. The mods vs rockers thing I don't get though. Hot rods I don't think played much of a roll in the lore of the day. Then again, I wasn't there so I can't say for sure.

It's just a fad/publicity. Jesse James and Paul Jr. are doing the same thing...

A real pretty peeve of mine is when my wife leaves seconds on the microwave. Really, you couldn't wait 3 more seconds? Now I can't tell the time from where I'm sitting!

Typed with thumbs - don't judge.

I'm the same way. Wife says its my OCD. Same with sweeping the floors 3 times every day. I cant stand stepping on shit when I'm in the house.

I understand... To a point. Havent talked to the ladies that run MvR here in Pittsburgh personally about why they chose to merge with the Steeltown Shakedown car show, but Im willing to bet its to garner greater exposure. The Shakedown has gotten to be pretty well known over the past few years. Does it kinda stink to have a 2 for 1 show? I guess for some. Ill still go though as I like hot rods a lot too, and its still a bunch of awesome bikes. Plus, that drive-in is rad.

One thing that might suck at this event though, is a general "fuck off" attitude that I have a feeling will float around. I hope it doesnt, but I know some guys who are "hot rodders" and they fucking HATE bikes/riders. Not really sure why, but they do. Theres the looming possibilty of some drama between the two camps only because some grown ass men like to act like petulant children. Heres to hoping we see none of that...

My guess is they dragged their feet for to long, picked some fights they couldn't win, refused to take suggestions from local riders... And found them selves with no other option. I don't think there will be any problems between the camps, but I expect bike and scooter attendance to be way way down this year. As a vendor it could only help to have a bigger audience, but as a rider... I hate the merging, if something starts off as a combo great, but to stick two together (especially independent events that are seccesful) just annoys the crap out of me. It looks either greedy or desperat, and I thing they are the latter. On top of that hot rods have absolutely no connection to "authentic Mods vs Rocker" which they always proclaime they were trying to do by having it on city streets. To put the cherry on top Cleveland will be showing up Pittsburgh this year, but at least there is Cleveland!

I think that they were forced to really. It sucks but at least we are having one this year. Hopefully they can pick it up next year as a solo event.

If you think Harley riders are anti-Jap, wait 'til you have a run-in with rodders.

Thats kind of what Im saying DrJ. I have never gotten as much shit from the HD locals for my Japanese bikes as I have from the self professed hot rod guys. I wasnt saying there would be fights or anything like that, but dont be suprised if there's a TON of shit talking, some bruised egos, and a palpable feeling of discomfort. I hope thats not the case, and I know I wont give a single fuck about any of it, but its all a possibility. Also, the C.C. that runs the show has been known to be a little... Lets say "stand-offish". That was a few years back though. Havent talked with those fellas in years. Could be completely different now.

I know exactly what you mean! A while back I was walking with my chocolate bar and this chic was walking with her peanut butter, and BAM, she runs into me! Now I got her peanut butter all over my chocolate bar, and my chocolate bar in her peanut butter! I'm all like WTF?! right?!
But then, as it turns out... wait, that actually worked out pretty good.

Nevermind, I got nothin...

This was thread was not ment to be about our local event, but the annoyance of people merging the two worlds as a way to get more money... That may not be the case with these girls, but I disagree if Chipped Chopped can be pulled together from strach in 2.5 weeks and zero budget... They could still put on an independent show, and keep mvr special for the scooter and cafe guys. It's not like it was the only way to keep it on the streets, cause that's not happening any way. I'm not sure if this is the better option over skipping a year. Sounds to me like they are sub-leasing a section of another event... If nothing else, I know a lot of us like to attend both and now there is only one event and the merger is not making it better for anyone.

Agreed Tom, and I understand your original point as well. If someone feigns interest for the sole purpose of making cash... Its kinda weak. That said, its the way of the world for sure.
