Post a pic of your latest purchase

Watch the fuel pump. Working at a bike shop I see bikes that sat a year plus multiple times a week. Lots of carb rebuilds, and 6 out of 6 EFI bikes with rust in the tank needed new pumps, 1 needed injectors because rust made it past the disintegrating sock and filter and just wrecked them.

Just bought a bike w/ EFI. Do you think that alcohol mixed gasoline is the largest contributor to the rust you are talking about? I've been using non-alkie gas in the yard equipment for quite some time and have gotten lots of satisfaction from having the mower/power washer/generator/etc start right up come spring. Based on what you've said it sounds like I'd benefit from having non-alkie gas in the BMW tank once winter sets in.

100% use non-ethanol to store if you can get it.

For quite a while I had been getting aviation fuel from the local small airport at several dollars a gallon above highway pump prices. A new station in a neighboring town put in a pump that sells non-ethanol so I get that once or twice a year for the tools. I'd rather use that than Sta-Bil.

Yep. we have 0 ethanol in our supreme here in Canuckistan so we run that in all the small engines and bikes etc. I still use Stabil in winter as extra measure though.

If it sits about 3 months any fuel is fine, 3-6 modern gas starts going bad, after 6 you might have problems, 12 months+ and its not even good for mowers.

Big thing is keep the tank full, less room for moisture, and don't let it sit too long. Even running it for 10 minutes a week will help as any moisture goes to the bottom and gets burned.

Never posted up the DRZ400S I picked up a few weeks ago. Love it - sold the KLR to fund the purchase. And of course I can't leave well enough alone so I already have an Acerbis plastic tank for it in 'natural'. The extra gallon will be nice to have even with the 1 gallon RotopaX that came with the DRZ.

Been thinking about the same thing, but I need to get some of these projects cleared out of the shop first.

A friend has a 400S done up in Motard style. Seems like a very good bike as he has not been able to break it!

Latest buy, last week, under construction in the Cafe section...

Had the ATV a little while, but it got new axle bearings, pull starter, starter motor, a-arms, tires, front shocks, battery, rear fender and a winch. New back rims should be here soon, 1 is cracked and loses air. It'll be a big upgrade for the wife, it has suspension where the trx125 didn't.

It's not fancy, but It'll do the job. The new back rims came in yesterday, and are actually the correct width for the tires. So I took advantage of having a tire machine at work to get the tires swapped over. Now I just have to get the splash guards on and it'll be done.

There, got the truing stand today. Next are the pilots. I'll likely have to make those.
Good thing I have a lathe :)

And then, no one makes stones with a M10 x 1.0 internal thread anymore.
Best I can do is 9/16-16 TPI (Black & Decker)

Back to work !

I want a full roof rack for my lifted Astro, and the cost to buy one would be near what a bender costs, so I found a way to justify a JD2 Model 32 bender. Mounted to my bench is not ideal, so I’ll move it to a pedestal. I was reluctant to put a huge bender in the middle of my small shop.
