Pre-bike purchase opinions needed

Good call on the 750 bud. I was going to warn you part way through not to get something that guys have trouble finding parts for. I've looked at buying that CX500 cause I think the slanted cylinders look cool but half the bikes I see for sale are being bailed on cause guys cant find parts. No worries with the CB750.....well some years are apparently easier than others.

that was one of the reasons i went for the honda cb - was for ease of parts locating.
good eye on the lowering blocks though. the ride doesn't feel too stiff for me. then again, i have no real basis for comparison. my wife wants me to take the msf course more than anyone.

i've ridden it around town a few times already. the only thing i noticed, is the clutch seems to let out late. so starting off can be a little inconsistent. i've lubed and adjusted the cable as far as i can go, but its not grabbing until my hand has almost let go of the handle. ideas? or perhaps i should start a new thread?

How many miles on the bike? If you can't adjust it out, you're clutch plates are worn.

dang, i was hoping that wasn't the case. the bike has around 6,800 miles on it. but when i was messing around with it, i noticed the vin on the engine/trans didn't match the one on the frame. so with that being said: your guess is as good as mine.

really??!? but before all this, i just chalked it up as it being related to the bike having sat for so long. long enough to where the tires had dry rot and flat spots.
at any rate: i'm a car guy primarily, so there's still a lot for me to learn here yet.

a 40 year old bike is a huge mistake for a first bike, a 750 is too much bike for anybody to learn on,it is nearly impossible to learn proper skills on a heavy bike on a light bike you can learn them much more quickly
a 450 dohc honda is about the worst choice ever as they are hugey complicated to work on and 99% of them are worn out BAD
you will get soured on the motorcycling experience if you have a 40 year old bike that neds constant fiddling, fixing and replacing of worn out parts when you should be out riding
if you want the old bike fine but get a modern 250 to learn on,preferably a dualsport take a riders course and also get out on a dirtbike , it is the best way to learn certain skills

Have you tried adjusting at the engine?
At 6800 miles I highly doubt your plates need replacing

yeah, i've adjusted at both the handle grip and at the motor/trans. it doesn't seem to give me that proper amount of slack at the trans on the throwout arm. i'm thinking ill try with a new cable first before tearing into the clutch.
