Project budget cafe 1982 CB900F - "Sally"

Re: another dohc honda! project budget cafe fighterish CB900F

I am new to the forum. I will be watching this thread because I have a couple of DOCH's. I have an extra front end from a 900F that I am thinking of putting on my Titan but I will only do this if I can put a wire wheel with the 900F discs and calipers. Does anybody know anything about this?

If I remember correctly, you can swap in a wire wheel from a goldwing with some spacers....and keep the dual disks... I think

My brother has three of these things sitting in his shed in various states of disrepair. Maybe a future project. Subscribed.

Re: another dohc honda! project budget cafe fighterish CB900F

Are you going to use side covers in your build?

Re: another dohc honda! project budget cafe not-really-fighterish-anymore CB900F

Yeah, I'm a slacker...been unmotivated to work on this thing while focusing on a (so far 80lb's lost) diet

Anyway, motivational support is here from some great friends and members here on the site who are helping with the stuff I either don't have the tools or the experience to do

^xulf13 did a wonderful job cross-drilling my rotors

^Ahawks has my frame and is making my battery box (shorai battery) and cutting off some brackets (i'll be painting it)

^headlight upgrade from ddm to the tune of 3000k color temp (had to hook it up to the Buell to "test for proper function"

That's about all i've got pics for, paint colors have been chosen, i've gotten a nice set of stainless engine screws to install, braided brake lines for the front hopefully purchased, got a seat (finally!) from clintonx. Other stuff to do is mod/make up the wiring harness, get a modern rect./regulator, mount the seat, pick up some fuel line and a new ignition switch, rearsets!..lol, and some other stuff...

Hopefully we'll have this thing running soon....more updates to come guys

Thanks,

Gray

Re: another dohc honda! project budget cafe not-really-fighterish-anymore CB900F

I see you have pods mounted. Is that wishful thinking, or have you found information about how to skirt the issue of it not running/performing correctly with pods. Ive always been told that these models REALLY need the stock airbox, even with re-jetting. I would really like to run pods on my build, but I do want to be able to dial it in right and have it run smooth.

I'm gonna chance it for now...AHawks seems to be pretty good at making them run alright...He's done mine. I'll eventually upgrade to some gixxer carbs

Major update to come this weekend guys! Til then, a little teaser

I wouldn't agree. Very slowly getting mine better. I will give it my best shot though.

Re: another dohc honda! project budget cafe CB900F - name to be chosen

update time -

Trying to get this thing at least rideable by the Mods V/S Rockers event here in Charlotte the first weekend in June.

I've got pretty much all the parts I need other than little bits and pieces and wiring harness stuff. I send out many thanks to Adam - Ahawks (er...Bubbleguts Turner) and Eddie - Xulf13 for all the help they have given me. It's not going to be the prettiest bike in the world, but for this go round (and being my first build) I think it will be ok...I can always take it apart in the future for a redo.

first off Adam worked on removing some brackets from the frame and making up a trick battery holder...this is how I got it back with my tank and seat on, and a picture of the stylin' battery i'll be using on this...

7006150356_30af840447_z.jpg

painted the frame (mostly) and the wheels in duplicolor's graphite wheel paint (nice paint) and the wheels have been cleared with spraymax - and yes, there is a lot of spray can bling on this bike...
7006151088_06e5eb1856_z.jpg

7189465218_9b83a2876a_c.jpg

and some really nicely cross drilled rotors done by Eddie!

the main color will be a 2012 Honda Civic color - Dyno Blue Pearl
7189617786_c3ea169272_z.jpg

And I cleaned and gloss black'd the engine with rustoleum engine paint...annnd put on some rather nice looking stainless allen hardware from Z1.
Still have some polishing to do though.

7189456162_31ee426ec9_z.jpg

these last pics are an example of the polish work i've done to the various bits...
removed all casting lines and mounts for the front brake line splitter
7006147656_2ef48c54a0_z.jpg

all this was done with a dremel, files, sandpaper, polish, and elbow grease..lol
7165365586_78c62f92b9_z.jpg

more to come guys...I'll have a good portion of the bike put back together over the next few days.

wooooord, the way I want to trim it is damn close to what you have here

it's a roller...now time to wire and rebuild front brakes....then torque everything down and crank 'er up..

no, not news....I know they are too low...no oil in the forks plus the air hose holes are wide open...drops it down a few inches...It'll be more sorted once it gets closer to riding
