Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Not just Aussies I got him, and I am a Canuck. That being said, we are both form CVommon Wealth countires and share the same queen, and that is originally a UK expression. I was jsut reading the friday fudge on CMGonline.com and if you look the editor is Canadian and used another very similar expression

"Welcome to Friday Fudge – a weekly round up of the more 'unusual' motorcycle related stories that are just too silly to post on their own, but raise a much bigger chortle when you slap them all together and take the piss. "

Cheers
Oh yeah and Kiley, I can;t wait to meet you and Gretta in person. Keep up the good work.

I think it may be some sort of urination sport, like urinal trough sword fighting, but for adults.

HA ha

I may be confused...but I am no yank!!!!...oh well...lets let this thread get back to the goods of the badest bike on the planet known as ...GRETTA!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

You're right Twisted, I used it generically, as we here tend too but I do know the difference and meant no offence, back to the Build!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Trucking along guys. Trying to beat the WV deadline!!!!

Frame goes for powder Friday morning.

Spent 3 days on this. Hand stitched cowhide leather seat cover. Still need one more pack of tacks for the perimeter to be finished, but you get the idea. inset leather design matches her tank badges. Pretty trick if I do say so myself! Also, here's the leak to the tank strap and bag as well. With matching coil covers ;).

Hope you kids dig it!

Coils will mount like so. So they'll match the seat fabric well (cut from the same hide!)

The leaks are getting more revealing!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

First off, I'm loving it all - hope you don't cook the coils under that layer of insulating leather ;) Maybe it needs some speedholes too!

Only 1 piece of input I have is the speedholes would look awesome chamfered. Just adds that 'machined' look. That being said, it might get lost in the finish depending on what you coat the frame with.

The coils never got too hot to touch at all. I rode for hours and could still grab them with my bare hands with nothing more than a little heat on them, so I'm not worried about that.

And I thought about the chamfering as well...but as you mentioned, the finish I am going with I think would eat it. That part will remain a surprise 'till it's done, but I'll just say that it's different, and will totally fit the theme of the bike when it's assembled. It is powder though, and powder has a tendency to smooth hard edges. Hard to say, I'll think on that. Thanks for the input Tim!!!!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

looks good! the tank bag is def not my style or the style of the bike IMO, but i really love that seat! wicked... i was worried about the coils overheating as well, but if you say they do not get hot then you may be good to go

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

I'm with Joe on the tank bag. Looks like it belongs on the front forks. I dig the design on the seat though. I wish all of the leather was two shades darker too. Visit your local Tandy Leather and they can hook you up with the right dye.

All in all it's quite a remarkable build. Quite remarkable indeed!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Thanks guys for the words.

The choice on the leather color was dictated by the fact that the tank strap was givento me by my father. It was his belt and I wanted to use it...it even has speed holes in it! It was meant for gretta.

I know that the look isn't for everyone. I know that it isn't your typical cafe racer. If I was pleasing everyone I would be denying the desire inside of me to break boundaries wide open. I really hate labels, and I realized at some point that gretta was no longer a cafe racer. Aside from a few stylig cues she has nothing left to make her a typical racer. I love old. I love distressed, and I love turn of the century artwork and hand made design. I remember seeing some hand cast tools and farm equipment at my grandpas house as a child and remember loving the exposed working parts. I love the patina and the years of utilitarian use that they have granted with unwavering reliability. Simplicity is beautiful. Raw is beautiful. The lines of a bolt head or the curve of a copper line. The wear and grain of a piece of non dyed leather is intricate in it's pattern.

I aim to expose the mechanics of my builds and innovate the parts to be familiar and stone reliable. My stainless is unpolished and my parts are there to show themselves working hard. You haven't seen the half of what is to come. It isn't for everyone, but it reflects the sweat and the mental design that I pioneered myself while retaining the beauty of the individual parts. Machine as personally expressive art. The beauty of my build will lie beyond the realm of the paint and polish. And I love it all.

Thanks all for your interest. I don't expect it to make you all happy, but that isn't the point. The poit is to get this inner fire out of my mind in the form of a machine, and hell, I've been misunderstood since childhood, so it only makes sense that my bike reflects that.

I appreciate you guys!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

i do really love the raw metal worn look though, that is def a plan for an upcoming build for this guy
