Project Trinda

precisely. I guessed. so far it's worked out pretty well, but to be honest the spring is still a little stiff. The real suspension guru's want to talk about angles and linkages and rotations and axixs (i don't know the plural of axis). I basically figured I'd shoot from the hip and at the end of the day I can always change a spring and adjust the strut. This bike is basically just something for me to play around on and refine my skills before I graduate school and become an adult (and start my REAL project. twin pre-unit, twin turbo, fuel injected triumph engines with reverse facing front engine head, to a baker 6 speed transmission in a stretched Norton featherbed frame w/ buell oil-holding mono-shock swing arm and all aluminum tank and fairings)

The plural of axis is axes. Just putting my two cents in! BTW, cool looking build.

time to make my new tank fit
dscn0390ms.jpg

this tunnel needs some Honda ears.
dscn0391d.jpg

here are a set in a scrap tank I have
dscn0392jt.jpg

removed with the tig torch on high heat, then trimmed and sandblasted.
dscn0399fb.jpg

tigged in the tunnel of the new tank
dscn0393uf.jpg

here's a stock triumph rear tank mount.
dscn0394e.jpg

I bet I can make that!
dscn0395xs.jpg

not too shabby. Tank mount mission: complete.

Im sure its just the picture but your front mounts dont look level.

it's mostly the picture, but they might be slightly off. the tank sits level, so the ears don't really matter much to me.

I took an original Triumph oil tank to sacrifice for parts.
dscn0402z.jpg

Cut out all the lines and bungs and the filler cap and breather
dscn0403sa.jpg

and proceeded to box out a section of my rear section to hold my oil. I cut a pipe into thirds lengthwise to have clean round edges on every corner. Coming together pretty well, now.

glad you guys like it. I've been slacking with updates, but here is a picture of some mock up going on. The pipes are still getting a few more bends - then polished.

dscn0441n.jpg

Here are some of the components I've scavenged from an original oil tank to use in my custom rear section oil tank
dscn0442z.jpg

Drilled some holes in a piece of sheet metal cut to fit one of the remaining panels
dscn0444r.jpg

Welded in place and ready to start smoothing, blending, filling, smoothing and repeating that process until I have it perfect.

BMX pedal motorcycle footpegs:
dscn0451li.jpg

First I cut two pieces of stainless, put them in the lathe and faced and drilled them to 1/2"
dscn0453v.jpg

Then I machined the peg faces on the bridgeport
dscn0455m.jpg

I drilled a hole to bolt them up through in the drillpress
dscn0456uu.jpg

I used the same hole as a rotating point to get a clean radius so the pegs can lift up when the need to - either kick starting or dragging knee around turns. The threads are 9/16 - 20, with reverse threading on the left side.

spit shine.

The bike looks awesome! Good to know there are other britbikes on here. Wish I had your fab skills, or even access to a fully stocked workshop...

All you need to do is ask! I just sent an email to choppahead and I was an apprentice days later. Fast forward a few months and I got my own key to the shop and can work on my bike after hours. Find a shop in need of free labor and the skills will come with time and practice.

An update for those interested:

Having just read six pages of sheer lunatic brilliance - I am on board for the ride.

Some very talented and very clever work you are doing here.

Inspiring!

I'm glad you see it that way. in reality it's just a lot of luck, guessing, and shooting from the hip. Hoping to be riding this spring. I've been bad about posting lately, and I'm sorry for that. I've also been making a few too many mistakes i've been correcting (and not posting, such as this:
dscn0461m.jpg

SHHHH don't tell anyone!). a step backwards for every step forward. all part of the process I suppose. The new rear section is lighter and straighter
