Question about a Works Shock.

Long story short….I need a place that can provide a longer remote reservoir hose, refill the oil, and recharge a Works mono-shock for me (at a reasonable price). Please don’t recommend Worx Shocks. Their customer service is horrendous.

Contact Matt Wiley from Race tech. He recently serviced a pair of Works shocks for me. Super knowledgable, fast turnaround. he has helped me setup the suspension on two bikes that handle fabulously. he specializes in vintage stuff.

I contacted Matt with mixed results. I sent him an e-mail and he promptly replied asking for more details and pics. I sent him pics the next day but got no response. Followed up a couple weeks after. No response. Followed up last night and he responds that he’s “off-site” and can’t help. He gave me the phone number to call directly. I have no idea why he strung me along in the first place if he couldn’t help me.

I’m waiting to hear back from someone that actually works AT Racetech.

Any other suggestions if RT falls through?

So RT responded with a price of $300 for a new line and labor to refill and recharge the shock!! That’s more than the rebuild that Worx Shocks already performed. So far I have about $750 wrapped up in this shock including the purchase of the shock used.

I guess I’ll cut my losses, sell the Works for whatever I can get for it and find a new shock without a remote reservoir.

Damn. So much for "rebuildable." If you can't rebuild a shock as a regular service for less than it's value in resale, I'm not sure it can be considered rebuildable.

Irk - Kind like how plastic is "recyclable" but rarely is because its not economical to do so.

Doug - If all you need is a new hose and recharge i think most any suspension place could handle that for you. have you looked locally?

I haven’t looked locally yet.

I contacted Daugherty Suspension about it. The line is $40 but he says the shock needs completely taken apart to change it out which I think is hokey. He charges $150 for a rebuild but since I don’t need parts it would be $125 in labor. I don’t get his reasoning as it’s an external line. You just release the air, drain the oil, remove/replace line and then fill the oil and recharge the air. Maybe I’m missing something?!

I’ll contact Schmidty.

could be that for some crazy reason, the shock needs to be completely disassembled to refill the fluid if the system is exposed to air, you'd think you would be able to reattach the line and reservoir and bleed the air from the system by pumping the shock, but... who knows.

You would think. I’m very close to just selling the Works shock and take a loss and get something that’s not a hassle to deal with.

I reached out to Schmidty Racing Suspensions. $200-220 parts & labor to get a longer line installed.

Daugherty offers a BD40 shock that appears to be fully adjustable for $775. I think I may go that route as he said the shock is customizable for my application.
