Quick question - Connecting 2 threaded rods on an acute angle...

Destruction Boy

Been Around the Block
As the subject says, I need to connect two threaded rods on my rear brake set up.
What would be the best way to do this so they hold fast?

Diagram provided if it helps...

I think if you try to run the original brake pedal along with a rear set lever, you will bend something. Are you trying to run both?

Well if I were to run the rear-set rod to the brake arm, there is nothing stopping it from moving backwards,

e.i. When I tighten the nut on the drum, the pedel moves up. If that made sense?

I thought I could piggyback off the original brake set up and run another rod from the existing brakerod to my rear-sets...

I tested it out with 2 nuts clamping on 1 just to see if it would work OK.\

It doesn't seem to bend and it runs quite smoothly. It's a little harder to push down with the lack of leverage but it's not bad.

Check the gs550 (?) rear sets from Omar's. There's a rod that pushes the original brake lever forward (which rotataes down of course).

I was thinking that but I still have nothing holding back the rear-set lever. If I piggyback it off the original set up it works fine, I just need something to connect the two rods.

Connect one rod from the brake switch mechanism to the rearset, and then another rod back to the brake drum, from the rearset. Make the rearset the mid-point.

I'm sure there are 100 better ways to do this, but this struck me immediately when looking at your drawing.

My XS650 rearsets use the existing splined brake lever mount, which activates both the light switch and attaches to the rod back to the drum. You cut the brake pedal arm down, mount it at the right angle, and the rearset attaches to it with a rod.

What bike is this?

That will work, but look like dog shhit

I'm glad somebody said this. Last time I said it a new member became a former member in record time.

Just a thought, and it may look a little clumsy, but the rod you have going back from the pedal to pull your brake rod......could you take that forward instead and join it to the mechanism at the same point as the brake rod?

Does that make sense?

We build rearsets for Titans.....it's not easy to get it right..........
