Rant! New low from a bike shop...

Sell the many to fund the few
I have discovered someone in the service departments at a few local shops have taken it upon themselves to take photos of customers bikes that are in for work, post them on a local forum and make fun of them. Not fucking cool!
I have always been of the understanding that it doesn't matter what you ride just that you ride. Old bike, new bike, Jap or not who cares its their bike. I think a level of discretion is expected when you bring your vehicle into a shop to have it worked on. Not everyone knows how to do stuff on their bike and we all started somewhere with our knowledge of bikes. Sorry it just really pissed me off. End of rant~

Agree that is pretty crappy. I can understand taking a picture of some detail (like a bad DIY weld or something that's safety related) that can be used to educate, but doing this without mentioning the what bike it is and who's it is.

That's messed up indeed.

Pretty terrible, I'd be pissed too

There are similar things happening on forums even, someone asks a question and before the person gives the answer they degrade and invite ridicule. It's only after they say "sorry" and "i'm new so help me out" do they actually get info from experienced posters.

I am sort of guilty of this as well. I work at tire store, you should see she of the shit people do to their rides. BUT I have never shared pictures I've taken socially. Only with close freinds. I only poke fun on the internet when the owners instigate.

There are entire threads dedicated to that kind of dickhead stuff on many forums. Jockey Journal, the .net, etc. Hell, the CL thread here ends up being that sort of BS most of the time. People suck.

get a copy of the post and print it or get it bookmarked on your phone

go and find the owner of the shop and meet with him and show him what his guys are doing on his time

This^, without a doubt.

Honestly it's the Internet...who cares. Not sure it's worth getting that pissed about. Do you ever talk bad about clients, coworkers, classmates or vendors behind their backs? Don't say no cuz unless you are a saint (heck even some of them) you are lying. If you like your bike then let them post whatever they want. If you are ashamed of your work then maybe it really does have some major flaws. I don't think it's fine to do this kind of shit I'm just saying i think we are all guilty of it to a point.

I have to admit I enjoy some of this

I don't think anything about that statement is a universal truth at all.

If some jackass runs around with open pipes because they need attention and are waking people up at 3AM then what they ride is not cool and that you ride that way is not cool either, it is a jackass bike with a jackass in the saddle. If someone rides unsafely through traffic cutting people off and does not wear a helmet, maybe they even have a wife and kids at home, then yes they ride, but they are a jackass.

Just because someone has a motorcycle does not give them any superhuman qualities, it does not elevate them above the general population in any way, but you would never know it by talking to most of them for sure. In fact people that flock to fashion trends and pop cliche's, as motorcycling has been for the last 25 years, are far more likely to be petty hollow second-hand jackasses than someone who has other things to fill their lives.

unless its your bike/car or someone you know's then whats the big deal?

you should see my instagram of all the worst POS/bro shit rides i see at bike night or dudes riding nuts to butts on scooters as im driving around

If your taking a pic of someones bike sure fine no problem but when you bring your bike into a shop I would think that you have an expectation of professionalism from the shop. Just because its a 20 year old bike and its not something that you like does not mean its a pile of shit it just means that its not your cup of tea. I have always been told that as a shop never discredit someones ride because it may be their pride and joy not to mention that person is a paying customer piss them off and they wont be back nether will their money.

Haha yes I enjoy this too, but that is more about vehicles that have been neglected or are seriously messed up/funny.

Not so much at poking fun of someone ride/style

I have admit that I do this all the time. You should see the bikes I get on the lift - the guy who does all my work barely knows what he's doing and only has a mechanic's license because he is good at taking multiple-choice tests.

I'm a huge ran of justrolledintotheshop myself, however, that's on a massive website where anyone can be from anywhere. It's less okay to be making fun of someones "style" on a local forum where it can indeed get back to them. It's just not kosher in that situation

People are too damn sensitive. Maybe we need to laugh at ourselves a little more and not take this so serious. Is it nice...no...but come on....most of us are dudes and dudes aren't nice to other dudes. That's life. Stop pouting and build a better bike everytime you try.
