"RATTLE CAN" BLING! ...everything is here!

Small setback today on Scruffy’s tank.

after wet sanding one area seemed to remain wet longer, turned out the old filler had not adhered properly and was rusty underneath!

i ground it back and started the fill/sand/prime/repeat routine again !

Good luck with the colour Charlie!

mine still needs some fettling before its ready for Tangoing !

That looks pretty smooth Charlie. advise for the colour coat. Put the support up the channel and leave the sides with nothing under them and put it up high enough you can get the underside of the edges with the paint and the clear.

this is how I had mine for clearing and could get it under the sides etc.

Yes, good tip, i realized this after, when i wasn't able to get as much primer on the underside of the "lip" i wanted to.
Will set it it up a bit better for color/clear for sure!

FYI that is Duplicolor metal specs orange, gunmetal wheel paint, white vinyl pin buried in 2K clear. still looked like that 4 seasons later and 40K kms when I sold the bike.

Yeah, that 2k clear certainly seems to be worth it the more i read about it. Is it better to apply it indoors or outdoors? Respirator and gear on, of course, but still, inside you're trapped in a garage with it. outside you can get more sh** stuck to your paint!

I do it outdoors and send pets and family away for an ice cream. I then move it indoors carefully to cure, In 20 mins it's dry and 24-48 hours its cured. The danger is in the spraying. 5 mins later you can put it in the garage and it barely gives off odors. I have set up plastic around when doing a whole bunch of stuff. Also one can is way more than you need for a tank so if you have other items to Clear have them all ready at once as the stuff is good for a short window once activated in the can. I did a rear cowel and 2-3 other bits along with that CX500 tank.

It's prob 5-6 but not heavy and I set a timer between to prevent sags and runs. Light wet coats after the first dry light coat. Follow the can.

Rattle can Tip !

my ral2004 Champion paint came with standard pin-hole nozzles, and the spray pattern was terrible.

”wish these had the fan nozzle off the i-pol cans” i thought.

so i tried fitting the i-pol nozzle to the champion can, it fits and sprays a beautiful fan !

this has improved the paint application markedly

Applied half a dozen light coats this morning, pleased with the result.

Question :

should i sand to flatten out the orange peel in my basecoat or apply the 2k and then sand/polish that ?

steve

How bad is the peel? If minor it will go away with clear but if really large you may want to knock it down a litfle.
