Rattle can clear on raw metal tank?

I was thinking that too, there's all this attention paid to painting some mechanical component bright red so it attracts more attention. But there could be a real cool bike that has a well finished exterior paint job but raw looking frame beneath it.
Are you bluing without a clear coat and it prevents rust? I know little about bluing but the surface looks rad.

Oh man, what a great idea...

If the tank works, I am gun bluing the swingarm.

I'm glad someone else agrees! So clear on raw metal works? I have a body shop owner come in once in a while and he told me last time that the clear wouldn't stick to raw metal?

I'd ask if you were an analrapist (analyst/therapist) but you might punch me if you're not an Arrested Development fan.

I decided to not go the clear route...I got some penetrating oil called Gibbs on the way, which I was told worked wonders. Once that gets here I will blue the tank.
