god he makes it look like there is a lot of room in there

send him my way i can use him

LOL Yup, in pic he's actually pulling screws out of RIGHT side carb bowl from the LEFT side of the bike!!! ;D

His biggest obstacle w doing the whole job was "Lefty-Loosey-Righty Tighty". With the upsidown screws.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Murrys carbs, For the WIN.

i saw that i can barely get my meat hooks under the close one

he just needs more practice send him my way he would get that in a hurry

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Saturday, Rachel and I had our first big ride of the season.

Didn't go well. For a split second she lost confidence in her tires and slowed going into a curve.

Front tire hit the soft shoulder, she and the bike went down.

Rachel is OK, bruised up and tender, After 5 x-rays in the ER thankfully nothing broken.

The bike did an in air end-o and landed on its tires. Broken windshield, mirrors, front brake line, headlight bucket, bent rear rack. Nothing too serious.

Sunday morning we got online and got all the replacements ordered to fix it back up.

Including a new helmet as she landed on top of her head, then flat on her back, knocked the wind out of her pretty good.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Glad she's ok and it sounds like she's ready to get back on the horse. Good for her.

Bike looks pretty much unscathed. Could have been much worse.

Job well done by the helmet.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Damn, hope she heals up quick. best thing to do is get back on and ride again. If I didn't rebuild the GL so I could ride as soon as I was allowed I wouldn't have recovered as fast or as well from my crash. The rebuild was all part of the therapy. Let her know we're glad she's ok!

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Wow, how quick sh1t happens.

Glad she's ok, been watching your builds, and reading your adventures.

Bike looks like it came out sorta ok.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Very sorry to hear about the spill but very happy to hear your wife walked away relatively unscathed. Keep it shiny side up from now on

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Teach her to lay off the front brake in that situation, please sir. Front brakes and dirt, especially gravel and down grade, don't mix well. You can flutter the brake, but a hard pull is going to dump even the best of riders.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Ugh! Really happy to hear that Rachael is OK. The rest can be fixed.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Thanks everyone all parts including her new helmet should arrive before this weekend.

So just gotta give her some time to heal up.

Yes sir, however, braking wasnt the issue in this particular instance.

When you roll off the Hondamatics throttle its engine braking. (no clutch to finesse your speed).

She lost confidence in the tires.

So she rolled off the throttle entering the turn, The bike slowed to about 10-15mph (give or take) quickly as the corner seemingly came at her quickly.

Then she had to make a snap decision (because she was now going to slow to lean through) she chose to "steer" around it too wide. Running into the soft shoulder her tire sunk about 3 inches into soft muddy soil then hit the steep face of the ditch.

She either could have locked up the brakes. Or she SHOULD have gunned it and leaned aggressively and made the turn.

her tires were good on the hard packed chip and tar surface. We had just ridden through that very turn, got to the end of that road and made a U-turn to come back through.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Sad to hear mate. Glad she is ok.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Oops. Very glad she is "OK" Maybe a little pillion riding might help restore some confidence

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Thanks guys. :)

We'll just stick to the main 2 lanes and the parks local to us. (As the road we were on is barely 1-1/2 cars wide)

Til she's back to 100%.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

I imagine the first going upright in bed will be slow for her for a few days if she landed on her back. Ain't gear great?

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

Oh yea, She's sore now but the real pain is past her.

Thanks guys.

Re: Rachels 78 CB400...Scary stuff. Wear your gear, no exceptions

is it fixed yet?

Not yet, vendors dragging feet on shipping.

So far, only arrivals are the windshield, a banjo bolt/20 pack of crush washers, helmet, and different style fuel tap w bowl and screens.
