New-ish member ScotchEgg has created a bit of a back and forth due to his name, and apparently how delicious his namesake food is. That got me thinking a bit. What's the local to you food that out of towners probably wouldn't know? Good bad or otherwise?

Being from the Pittsburgh area a lot of our local delicacies are a mix of Irish, Polish, and German foods. Pirogies, halushki, the well known Shepards Pie, sausages of all kinds, etc.

There's also scrapple, the PA Dutch food. Kind of a pork bread mix. Hearty farmers food.

Though obviously not technically Pittsburgh at the core, we here have an odd (to some) habit of adding french fries to the top of our steak salads and between the bread of our sandwiches. Google Primanti Bros, though they have satellite restaurants all over now so some of you may know the deal.

And of course there's Iron City beer and Pelinkovac. Pittsburgh staples.

So, what's on the menu in your town?

North Devon (South West England) is all about cream teas. That's scones served with clotted cream and jam and a pot of tea. Some of 'em are good, most are average. I don't actually think anyone but visitors to the area eat them though.

The South West, especially Cornwall, is also famous for its pasties. Pasties are semi-circled/crescent shaped pastries with various fillings, usually beef and potato. They're delicious. Good for lunch when you're out and about and shit.

I wish BBQ was local cuisine :(

Chitlins and hog maws ;D

Neither is unknown in Oz, although the fries on bread is known as a chip butty. The chip butty is one of the better items adopted from our colonialist ex-masters (deep-fried Mars Bars don't count).

Crazy

Haah, I lived in Estes for many years... my family still does and I eat the hell out of some bull fires and know many many Coloradans who do and have big ass fry parties every year. Dont try to make it like Colorado just eats trout, I wouldn't eat a trout from lake Estes let alone fromTrout Heaven haha!

Ya forgot about hog and sheep. 20-30 years ago 'fries' were big around here.

When we lived in Ohio I was introduced to kielbasa sausage

Then we moved to way upstate New York (Quebec was a local phone call) and found fiddleheads

In DFW, Texas we sampled the local BBQ, nothing better then a baked potato covered with your choice of smoked meat

In Atlanta it's chicken and waffles

Southern Louisiana. New Orleans specifically.
Go to any locally owned neighborhood restaurant, open the menu and drop your finger, and you'll hit somethin awesome that's unique to the area. But here's just a few favorites...
