New to photography. Taking a class this semester. This week's assignment: Self-portraits without showing your entire face. Here's one of the shots from tonight. I'd appreciate some tips and pointers to make better photographs.

Tip:
Shutter speed controls ambient light exposure
Aperture size controls flash exposure (and ambient light to a much lesser extent)
