Shake the Box CL360/378 - The Hedgehog - Done

It's partly accurate. The key is to look at the direction of thrust and then put the sharp edge away from the part that will push against it. The idea is that the clip will not be pushed out of place. If the rounded edge was taking the thrust, it might be displaced by the sideways force.

With an external clip on say a sprocket, there is no way the sprocket could be pushed into the transmission, so the sharp edge on the outside minimizes the possibility of the sprocket pushing its way off the shaft

Ok, that sounds reasonable. I've got to take the cover back off because the clutch isn't adjusted right yet... can't pull the clutch lever... so when I'm in there I'll turn 'em around. It's good to learn something new.

Things are very close. I was over at Levi's last night getting the tank welded so there may bven be a possibility that I might be able to attempt a start in a couple days? I don't know, will have to see.

The newly welded spots on the bottom are now painted, there were a couple of places on the top that needed attention so it's been slow progress that consists of; sand, fill, wait, sand, fill, wait, sand, repeat. AND with the weather closing in I hope I'm able to get the shop warm enough to get the last coats of paint and clear successfully laid on.

Was trying to catch-up on your build, sounds like you are making good progress, but it seems the photos have been lost in the recent upgrade? Looking at the code, appears that your pictures were in the old gallery and this hasn't been migrated. :(

Yeah, thanx, Perry. I need to go in and post (repost) a bunch. The fact that they can't be put into the body of the text like before is kind of a bummer, but that's the way it goes. Guess I oughta start and go backwards through the posts and see how far I can get. Lots of guys post are gunna need attention for sure.

Yeah, the Photobucket fiasco trashed my thread's photos. I may pick at it to replace them a bit at a time.

Yeah, what a mess w/ that photobucket deal, greedy sods. A while ago I tried logging in there to copy the pix back to my current computer but their site is so slow because of ads that it was a painful process.

I spent some time and pretty much got pix added from the end here back to page 16. It's surprisingly time consuming! I'll try and spend a few minutes tomorrow and go back a little farther.

You can put them in line if you chose full size when you post

Thanx! Still figuring the whole thing out. The biggest hassle w/ it isn't this site but my laptop. The good folks at Apple have seen fit to make it a relatively slow process to attach because I've got to select the shot to post from a fairly small thumbnail. It just takes some time.

It's obvious that there's no way I'll be able to use the stock clutch cable. I'm going to have to order one that's at least 4" shorter. I know they can be shortened, but all I have is a couple of OEM units that are both 44 years old so I think it might be best to just replace. Not what I wanted, but I've now got lots of time to research and have one ordered so it's here when I get back in March.

Things have gone quite well on this project, finally, after all these years, but it's time to flee winter for a few months so I had to close up the shop today. The rattle cans have been moved to the basement in the house, the compressor has been shut down, and I'd like to say that I got in a very thorough cleaning, but that would be a lie. Oh well, maybe the Good And Friendly Shop Elves of legend will pay my shop a visit and clean everything up while I'm gone. Yeah right.

Oh yeah, one quick question:

Would it be advisable to leave a battery tender on it or will things be ok w/ it just sitting there disconnected?

Depends on the battery.
Lead acid does better with a tender, lithium should be fine disconnected.
If you're not going to be there though I think I'd just leave it disconnected either way.

Thanx! It's a SLA, I'll just let it sit there.

Minor update: I'm sitting here in South MS attempting to escape the Ohio winter and was going to spend time in the evenings reattaching pictures to this mess of a thread, HOWEVER my poor old clanky MacBook gave up the ghost. I replaced it w/ a MacBook Pro, but all the pix are, of ourse, on the old machine. I'll eventually get them (AND all my music! Grrrrrr) off the old one but until then, no fixing pictures. Oh well.

Been following this thread since it started. Really looking forward to seeing some footage of you ripping around on this bike when you get back from snowbirding.

Back in Ohio, oh boy. It wasn't a bad winter and I got to meet @Redbird and @Deviant1, both events were pleasurable experiences! I've been told the winter here in Ohio wasn't all that bad, but it was nice to get away for a while.

Have gotten the Mrs and the dog settled back in and got @Hurco550's TW delivered so I guess I've got to get back to work and get this wee beastie running. Unfortunately I've been out in the shop and as predicted above, the Good And Friendly Shop Elves didn't come and clean the place up while I was gone; still a mess and the bike still isn't finished. Stay tuned, the thing will be running (or sold off!) soon!
