Shake the Box CL360/378 - The Hedgehog - Done

Thank you Mike!

Little more progress today. Spent much of yesterday doing melon jobs. (You know, Honeydew Melon.)

OK, it's unorthodox, but what the heck:

Little more riveting to do then I'll let it sit a few more days then clear coat.

Wow, that looks great!

Thanx! It's coming along. Overall I've done better w/ the painting than I anticipated and I'm more comfortable and confident with it than I was when I started but I'm very glad it's almost finished. The painting part is ok, but the prep sux.

Thanx, Mike. The rivets are an interesting thing; trying to strike the balance between enough of them w/o doing too many.

Yep, are you applying them from decals or painting with a stencil? Hard to decided where to put a few on the knee dents. It looks a little empty but where should rivets go if at all? maybe a pin stripe to highlight the dents?

The guy who made my Honaki Wing stickers made sheets of the rivets for me. I'm trying to apply them in such a way that they would represent the edges of metal panels applied as the skin on a metal framework. The inspiration for the thing is my helmet. I'm waiting for the heater to do it's thing out in the shop, I'll throw up a picture when I get back out there.

Kool. I get the concept and it's working for me. Stickers had to be the easiest way and if you screw one up, peel it off.

I originally had hoped to duplicate the blue on the helmet but, while the color wasn’t too big a deal, the mottled effect wouldn’t have been a go so I elected to go strictly w/ the matte black on the bike.

Yeah the paint effect would have been tough to get right. You may have been able to have a vinyl done up to match though. I like the helmet too.

Thanx on the bucket. I saw it in a bike shop and needed a replacement, I’m retired USAF so it just seemed like a natural.

Done playing Rosie the Riveter. Seems like it’s always tempting to do “just a few more” but probably enough is enough. The south end of the middle row on the tank heads toward the west and the south end on the seat base heads toward the East but it sorta goes w/ the slightly cartoon character, tongue in cheek nature of the thing so I can live w/ it.

Have spent a couple of hours the last couple days. fitting up the fairing. I had it mounted before I tore things down for paint but decided it was sitting up too high and then decided that the mounting I had devised was crap so it's time to think it through again, redesign, and re-fab. As of now the bottom is in place and the top just needs some final bending and adjustment before it's ready to go.

Bottom (looking up) needs to be taken back off for paint and to get the front brake line re-positioned and secured, but that's generally as it will be in final fitting.

And looking down at the top. There needs to be more fitting and adjustment but that's generally where they'll be. All nice and solid.

I forgot about the fairing that will look slick

It would be rideable w/o the fairing and it's so small I don't believe it'll effectively cut much wind, but it'll do so much to tie the whole "look" together when it's completed that it's kind of integral. (Coming soon.)
