Shift rod

That's definitely not normal. Is the circlip and/or washer missing?
Definitely a grove in the shift shaft for a circlip. Not sure if it can take a washer or not. Is this something I get at the auto parts. Or is there somewhere online to get OEM?
The bushing looks good. No side to side or up and down play in the rod.

Economy sells an upgrade kit that includes a sleeve, seal and bush that will tighten everything up. If it's in your budget, you may want to go with that. Should improve shifting. They're $50 for the kit. I'm not totally sure who sells the circlip, though I imagine it's just a matter of sizing the slot and buying accordingly. One of the Harbor Freight kits may have one to match.

Would these items help me out? After getting into the Haynes manual. I forgot how helpful and unhelpful it can be? I found them on Economy. I am learning how to navigate the Economy website. Still trying to find the kit you referred to.

Now that I have figured out. That there are parts missing on the gear shift rod. That go on the left motor side. It is making sense. LOL

Here is the upgrade kit, if you choose that route:

Here is what Economy has available. Looks like you can use the link Doc offered plus get the boot from Economy if you want to go the stock route:

Thanks guys, I am definitely going that way.

The seal looked in great shape . The only problem was that it spun very loosely on the shift rod. I figured I would have a little struggle. I used a old ice pick to remove. It was a easy removal. Thanks for the links to find the seal kit. I found them on Ebay also. They were 20bucks, but I didn't look at shipping. If you all think the kit on Economy is better quality let me know.
