Coast to Coast
I think its only fair someone posts about this for those who havent heard the news yet...

Im not a parent yet, and I can't even imagine what these families are going through. Can't understand what would motivate this kind of cowardly, psychotic behavior...

My thoughts and prayers go out to them.

Apparently OCD and Asperger's... Probably also a healthy mix of Call of Duty, Dolph Lundgren movies, and that scream music they listen to these days.

In light of this, I'm pretty cool with humanity meeting its end in a week and a half.

I'm really hoping this doesn't slump into a gun vs. anti-gun debate all over the news. Sad state of things is, it probably will. While the shooting is absolutely tragic, guns were not the CAUSE of it, a psychotic mind was. I feel bad for the families and the community, both those who lost loved ones, and those who survived, but as the husband of a psychologist, I can't help but consider the fact that somewhere in this guys life, someone just flat out didn't pay attention to signs that something was wrong.

Be human please please dont turn this thread in to some dumb ass pro/anti gun debate, these were very young kids at a school. a school that some one was able to walk into, a school that was intrusted with the safety of twenty some odd kids failed to keep there end of the deal. and god willing who ever decided security guard at a school full of k through 4 kids wasnt in the budget should burn in hell. Millions of people with his mental illness exist day in day out with out killing 28 people so that a cop out.

SOMEONE SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO WALK IN TO A UNLOCKED K/4 SCHOOL !
would you let any body hang out in your yard while your child was playing on the swing set. no but that basicly what happen all the time while your kids are at school.

I agree...Scott Van Pelt said it best on his Afternoon Show....Don't let this tragedy be a platform for your second amendment beliefs, no matter what way they lean. This is about children...there will be weeks of gun talk..let today be about mourning for the losses suffered.

And matty...even tho I know you are probably kidding about the end of the world in 7 days now or whatever it is...but truth is I have a feeling this wont be the last tragedy this week. Same crap happened before y2k. Our country needs good citizens right now. We need to be that...my opinion.

i would be willing to bet the same education system that failed 20 kids today failed the shooter 14 years age

To make it worse, there are, on average, two copycats every time something like this happens and the media goes crazy about it. Possible this was the first copycat after yesterday's Oregon shooting in the mall. Fucking news stations...

The shooters mom was one of the teachers he killed there, so I'm betting that's where his rage was directed. I really can't wrap my head around why he would then kill children. If you want to off yourself, fine but leave the fucking kids out of it. I have two, a 2 year old and a 9 year old and this really pisses me off.

Well, I'm thinking this was a copycat of the Chinese stabbing from yesterday...

This sickens me to no end on so many levels. I am no stranger to death, even children. I've seen more than I ever imagined I would. I am also no stranger to psychopathic personalities. They are everywhere, all around you, I promise you that. It's scary, and I remember that fact freaked me out more than anything else at the beginning of my career. I can't help but mourn for innocents. In any situation like this there is always an undeserving victim that bears the weight of any selfish motive come to fruition. Miserable people have always been around, and a human's capacity for atrocities will never surprise me due to their ongoing residence in society since its birth. What I can never get used to, however is the people left to bear the burden. Lives were changed forever today. I agree completely that this should not be about guns at all. It is about the decline of the actual care for well being that we have for our fellow man in this modern world. Sure we donate money and pray or whatever else it is that we do that is hands off and PC, but honestly, some people need to be slapped in the face. I can't help to think that in the days leading up to this event that there were indicators and warning signs about the impending doom that was about to unfold. So very very sad.

All that we can do is remain aware and cautious. To compliment that we have to remain compassionate and empathetic. Strong souls and open hearts my friends. Be careful in this world we inhabit, you never know what is around the corner. And stay strong during the onslaught of media spewings on this event in the coming weeks. It's going to get so very ugly, and that is not the legacy that was meant to be left for these people.

+1, of all the shooting taking place in the past few months this one pisses me off the most, the young kids. What is wrong with people!!! I guess all we can do in the end is pray for the families.

Love your kids and cherish each day you have with them.

Well put, we will be in for a media firestorm aimed at "all the usual suspects". Our inability to come to grips with the evil possible in the fevered minds of men is going to cost us all our freedoms. Sometimes I just wish they would all turn off their cameras and just shut up, or at least pray, I doubt either will happen.

+1 nailed it...

We do a very poor job of diagnosing/caring for the mentally ill in this country. The stigma of seeing a "shrink" is so strong, that people have to be suicidal before they will seek help.
And what help is available, is too limited, especially if you don't happen to be wealthy.

A lot of you guys know that my Daughter is a teacher, so this hits very close to home.
When she was in grade school, two Dad's a day volunteered to patrol the halls. This supplemented a uniformed police officer, and we found that the kids were more comfortable reporting stuff to "____'s Dad" than to an officer.
